Somehow lost/misplaced my Bushnell 4200 eyepiece scope cap cover. Measured the outside diameter of the eyepiece, it was 1.54", off to SAIL I go and purchase a Butler Creek Blizzard cap.
I forget the exact model number but it does say right on the box that it's made to fit eyepieces from 1.50"-1.59". I place it on the eyepiece, a little bit of a tight fit but not too much.

Now I click it shut, it stays put for 2-3 seconds then pops up again... I tried placing it deeper and shallower, still the same result. Should I exchange for the next size up and perhaps make up the difference with electrical tape?
Is the tight fit causing this to happen, or will it correct with time? Thanks.

From my experience with butler creek flip up covers, you should bring in the scope and test fit in store. Even when you measure with a caliper they often aren’t accurately measured on the package, once you have th proper size they open and close nicely. I have them on a bunch of scopes.

Most likely something out of round or there is casting flash presence that is creating the problem . Rotate the cap to different Positions , does it stay closed when is off the scope ? Check the teat and divets for proper engagement . Best of luck !

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to respond. Followed your advice on rotating and checking, still the same problem... Will exchange for one size larger and try again.

I went to Sail to get Butler Creek scope covers. I found the right size but cover after cover refused to click shut and stay. Upon close examination, I found out that they were ALL defective. I informed the manager that they had received a load of defective merchandise and I found a set that worked at Elwood Epps.

Wow... that's crazy, thanks for sharing. Problem is that I live in the east end and only make my way to Epps a couple of times a year.

These are discontinued due to issues...

A quick search on the net shows this was a big problem for these. Most people, me included, just get the regular Butler Creek black caps. I still have a set from 25 years ago on a 30-06 that work great.

Another issue with the Blizzards I've read is that the see through caps changes your POA/POI. I haven't used them so I can't say if it's true but I'm sure they aren't as good to look through as your scope glass. Most use these to quickly spot the target but then flip them up to aim and shoot. (Same as you would with the black caps.)

Just my .02, rounded to the nearest .05 now.

I have had several that do that, usually on the objective end of old U.S. made Weaver K2.5 scopes. I think if the bell is just a little bit too big their isn't enough contact area to stand up to the spring pressure so it won't hold closed.
