The shehane is very popular in f open.
Ok then...what would this be like for Critters
It will kill things that will die from a 7mm bullet. Not much difference from a 7mm Rem Mag.
Had a 22-284. Fun gun to shoot but sold it because I never used it. I would of never seen 4000 fps with 80 grainers. My load did shoot 80 gr Bergers at 3550-3600 fps though. Very accurate round. Out of a 27" #4 fluted BRUX.
Is there anyone who knows what a 284 Shehane and a 22-284 are? Specs, speeds, uses, popularity?
It all depends on what you want them for, hunting or target.
The 284 Shehane would mostly be used for F-Class, using a 30" barrel and a long action. Velocity would be around 3000 fps with 180 gr bergers. For hunting the 284 win cartridge lends itself well to a light weight hunting rifle, I would want a short action with no less than a 22" barrel, i prefer 24" and would probably get 3000 - 3100 fps with 140 gr bullets. I don't think the Shehane would have much of an advantage over the original 284 win.
I built a lightweight sheep rifle many years ago on a Rem 600. Extended the mag box so I could load out to 3.1". 23" thin taper bbl. The 284 is a great cartridge for that. - dan
