Or does it??? Just figured out that my $500 Marlin 2000L will nearly outshoot my $2200 Winchester 52D custom .

Seemed like a nice day out today, very little wind so I headed off to the range with the two guns. Set up targets at 100 yards and shot. My 52 didn't do great but not completely horrible eitehr. Had a couple allright groups around .6 -.75 for 5 shots but nothing real special. Shot a 10 shot group with it:

Then I decided to bring out my Marlin 2000L. Mounted a 24X leupold benchrest scope on it and brought out some Eley Match EPS ammo. Took a couple shots to get sighted in. Then I took a 5 shot group.... WOW!! All 5 shots went into a group slightly larger than .6CTC.

Thought it was lucky so I moved the scope up 6 clicks and over 1 and tried it again. First shot was high so I moved it down 2 and over 1 more and took 9 more shots... ALL in the 10 :dancingbanana::dancingbanana:

Had this up for sale but I have decied to hang on to it. Definately not too bad for a $500 gun. With a bit more tuning and a bit more of shooting it I see no reason why this gun can't shoot real good - heck, its doing not bad allready! Those were the only 15 shots I took with the gun (plus about 4 sighters)

Yes I am sure that would have helped ;). I really wan't 100% sure on how it shot before. I didn't think it was entirely accurate but I din't think it was inaccurate either. Well now I am preatty dang happy that the offers I recieved on it were so low ;).

.6 at 100 is fantastic! I wonder what its capable of at 50?
Hey now you can put some cash back in your pocket.....sell your $2000 Win 52 and keep the marlin. I'm sure you'll tick off all the lads with the big money rigs when you whoop them with the $500 marlin :)

Thanks!!

Never tried it at 50 yards before as this was the first time I put a scope on it but I find usually groups at 50 are about 3 times smaller. So that group may have been around .2 or so maybe.

But no matter what I will always have the 52. Its my baby ;). May not have shot that great a few nights ago but it never seems to let me down :dancingbanana:.

Although it would be preatty fun to shot up at our local benchrest shoots with the marlin. I'd probably be laughed at but, heck, last time it was blowing about 30kmh and hour and I brought out my 10/22 and shot inbetween the luls. Wasn't so funny after I beat a lot of people with $2000 rigs (including beating my first score with my $2000 52).

Thanks...

No I have not done any accurizing. I expect with a bit more tuning (playing around with torque settings) and maybe some glass bedding I can get those groups a bit smaller :). I may just leave it all together as well though.
