Building my first ar so still learning where to shop. I'm looking for a 18.6 stainless for my build as I'd like to switch barrel later and keep it NR.

also would a 17 inch hand guard cover the gas block on most barrels?

An AR is never NR, regardless of barrel length. If you're using an AR lower and not a "nearly AR" lower, it's restricted with a 24 inch barrel and with a 7.5 inch barrel, no difference.

Was planning on moving this barrel over to a NR set up eventually, like an SLR or that Alberta based company which is in the works

I grabbed an Odin works 18.6” DMR 223 wylde barrel with gas block (non adjustable) for 300$ from pheonix range. Last time I was in there they still had one. Looks like this. EF949A17-480E-47FC-AE36-11DA9D99DB4B.jpg

For reference- 18.6" barrel with a 17" hand guard. Mid length gas system.

BCL has their IBI 18.6 stainless fluted barrels for 229. I was able to grab a barrel and mid length tube for 204 plus tax and shipping with their 15 percent of sale. I think it's still on too if I'm not mistaken.

What hand gaurd is that?

It's a chinesium one, TNA sells them for pretty cheap. They're the fairly standard aluminum extrusion with some cool looking Pentagon cutouts, and mlok at 3, 6, 9, and 12. The pic rail at the receiver and close to the muzzle on the top may or may not be in spec. Lol. They're solid though.

Thanks for the info.
