My boy has been shooting his 22 for a couple years now. He’s gotten to the point where he is safe and accurate however the lightweight caliber seems to have lost some luster. When I saw a mint condition, unissued Chinese SKS for sale at Cabelas I got hit with some inspiration and decided to do a build for him. The short LOP and intermediate caliber seemed like a great next step for the young lad.

Purists beware... this is what happened.

Here’s the untouched rifle:

Really like the end result and the accuracy was pretty surprising. Most of all - my boy loves it!

Tastefully done, and nice results. Two of those 1.x groups look lovely if shot at 100 (even 50) with a red dot, what ammo was used? That must have been one fun afternoon, happy son, happy dad I'm sure.

Appreciate the complements fellas. I am at the point where I like working on rifles as much as I like shooting them and, beyond this being a fun, low-budget build, it is a real pleasure to share things with my son (Government better not fvck that up for us all).

In answer to a previous question - groups were shot at 50 yards using Chinese corrosive milsurp ammo. Was rushed for time so they opened up a little with barrel heat but all in all, a satisfying accuracy change over an “as issued” SKS.

Nice Rifle !!! Looks like a sweet shooter.

My dad didnt want a gun in the house when I got my PAL, mom wanted me to get a safe. So the next day i went and bought a brand new 12gauge, the safe and 3 more firearms came not too long after. 1 of them my dads dads 100 year old sporterized lee enfield.
