What 30-6 rifle is the best for hunting

For hunting, I prefer the black plastic composite stock and stainless barrels. A little more weather resistant than blued barrels and wood stocks.
As for rifle, have a look at Tikka T3 or a Savage 116 Weather Warrior.
Top that with a good quality scope. 30/06 you are good to go after almost anything in North America.
Lots of sponsors on this sight that will have any of these in stock.

A 30 06 is very common, get one that you like and are comfortable with. There are many types to choose from.
Id narrow it down to an action you like using and go from there.

Search “30-06” in the buy & sell. There’s tons for sale.
If I had to pick one it would be a Winchester Featherweight or Kimber Classic 84L

My Savage Weather Warrior has been excellent. Also heard only good things about Tikkas. I handled a Remington 783 today. Quite impressed. I think it is the best budget gun out there now. Next up the cost ladder would be a Weatherby Vanguard. Mine was a very sound tool.

Pretty much any rifle these days is adequate for hunting. My recommendation is get something gently used at a better price. Good deals can be had on tikkas, sakos, and brownings if you watch for them. Buy quality rings and at least a decent scope. No sense in buying a $1000 gun and a $200 scope.

Ruger M77 Boat Paddle, got lucky with a great barrel. Absolute tack driver but so boring I bought many more but when push comes to shove I still grab it first out of the safe. Only thing ever was a Timney trigger!

:agree:

I have a Zytel "Boat Paddle" stocked Ruger M77 MKII All Weather in 300 Win Mag similar to the above rifle.
It also has an accurate barrel and I agree that it is a great gun.

I have a Howa 1500 in 30-06 sitting in a B&C sporter stock with the full aluminum bedding block. All I can say is that it's a keeper. I also have one in 6.5x55 that I also love, but the 30-06 gets the most use here in northern Ontario. It drops everything, and it is definitely MOA, or better, with decent factory ammo. Currently, I am rather smitten with Federal Fusion 150 grain and Prvi 150 grain soft points.

There's a NIB Weatherby Vanguard 2 in 30-06 on the EE right now for $455. I'd take that and run.

Edit - add actually doesn't say S2 - I'd check that with seller.

I am having alot of trouble finding a 30-6 rifle please help. My target animal is elk.

The Equipment Exchange on here shows about 4 pages of options for you.

The Cabelas website currently has 51 rifles available that are chambered for 30-06.

Hopefully your quest for the elk goes better, good luck.
