Dispute over SMD-12 classification

It's here... :shotgun::dancingbanana::shotgun:

edit to add...

OK I've had dinner and taken sometime to check the gun out now...

I haven't been to the range yet but that should happen fairly soon.

I personally prefer this awesome little shotgun with the butt stock on but I can totally see the benefits of the pistol grip which I switched over to just to give it a try...

In regards to Dlask they are back and totally open for business as usual so your calls should all be answered or if you have to leave a message you will get a return call right away...

Now to paint the grip/stock/fore end and I'll post a range report once I get a chance to fire this little beauty...

Before I bother anybody at Dlask, I though I would ask the question here first.

Do you think Dlask could cut down my Marine Magnum and turn it into one of there SMD-12's? I like the look of the Nickel finish on the receiver of the MM.

Or am I being stupid? Would it be better to sell the MM and then get the SMD-12?

Decisions, decisions, decisions...:bangHead:

Nope, i don't think so. If they cut an existing barrel, then it's a prohib as far as i understand. They're doing this by making their own barrels. They would have to start making barrels for your MM before they could turn it into one of these. .

Or have a two tone. (black barrel, MM receiver.)

They might be able to make a barrel as a custom job - but it would likely be pretty damn pricey and I wouldn't expect you to see it in the near future. I think they're pretty busy :D

Does anyone know if they will sell them with the non-pistol grip stock? Or would I be better off buying a standard stock separate?

So, if I buy one right now, and pack it in the bush with the pistol grip and get busted, will I be accused of carrying a restricted firearm, or will I just piss off the LEO by owning a totally legal non-restricted shotgun?

( Not trying to piss off anyone but I know that around here any cops seeing this will without any doubt arrest me and be very mad if it ends up showing in the files as non-res)

You've pretty much got it nailed. You'll be accused of having a restricted/prohibited gun, and in the end you'll get off. And you'l probably still have to go to another court date to demand the return of your gun.

Well that's just plain nonsense.

You will have a valid cert. (about the only possible thing the registry is good for). At worst a cop will take the gun while he confirms the cert and checks it out.

A lot of people went thru this with the 'backpacker' shotgun from iga - it looks WAY too short (12 inch barrel single shot - tiny gun).

People had their guns taken and such (this was pre registry) and had to call the sergent to get it straightened out. I seem to recall some of the NFA comments on old websites talking about the 'pain in the ass' of having to explain the law to the cops - but it got sorted pretty quick and the cops don't bug anyone about it now.

If you're concerned, just make sure you've got all the paperwork and if you're REALLY concerned have a chat with the police station in the area you're going to, let them find out BEFORE you go it's legal.

You may well get hassled once or twice, IF they even bother to look at you, but that's the price of being a gun owner these days. Heck, some mis-informed newb cops have tried to charge guys for not having a trigger lock on a non-restricted during transport. Yeash.

The laws were written and Dlask has made this shotgun to the letter of those laws...

The RCMP is trying to break these laws that they are sworn to uphold because they don't like the length of the shotgun...

D*mb I am impressed with what Dlask is doing for Canadian firearms owners especially after my son & I got to the range with ours yesterday...

I'm going to call him back today and find out if he can convert one of my 28" barrels and also build one of his 14" barrels to fit the 8.5" gun which would turn this into a shooting system not just the most awesome little shotgun that I have ever shot...
