Arguing with a BC CO in the butcher shop..... hmmmmmm

Never, ever say you are going to do something you don't have the lawful authority and the physical capability to do.

Old deer hunting buddy of mine had 2 does hung up behind an auto shop place. CO miraculously pulls in one afternoon and asks whose deer these are?

My bud happened to be there and said they were his. CO grabs a carcass and say's these deer are being seized as they are not tagged. My bud grabs him by the shirt ripping off a bunch of buttons and say's get your hands off my fecking deer !

CO relaxes once faced with reality and asks why no tags. Bud says they were for his family to eat as he was metis. CO asks to see card and buddy tells him his application has been received and the card was in the mail.

CO starts to squawk and my friend asks if he wants to dance again. He declines and they now amicably make a date to get together and lo and behold my buds status is confirmed.

This was a life long CO who has recently retired I believe.

The folks at the shop figured out why the CO showed up and they haven't had a similar problem since.

I remember near the end of a busy midnight shift ( 0530 ish ) pulling down a street that ended at a river next to a marina and boat ramp. There in my high beams was 2 fellas pulling an aluminum boat in. They were like deer in the headlights looking guilty as heck, the one guy was holding a stringer of pickerel I think, that went from his chest to his knees. Not knowing limits, seizure of fish procedures or the specific laws that they may be breaking, and not wanting to stay awake hours until a CO arrived to deal with the possible infractions, I put the cruiser in reverse and found a quieter place to finish my paper work.

LOL Been there,done that way back when. We called it FIDO "fack it,drive on." You don't need to look for trouble. It'll find you quick enough.

I don't quite call that scenario a FIDO because it wasn't what I was trained or expected to be doing. At least in my mind. ;)

Truer words were never spoken about finding trouble, usually other peoples trouble, soon enough. Unless you've done the job it would be hard to accurately relate to that statement.
 
I'd say most all CO'S I've dealt with are straight up decent guys...however anyone can have an off day.

true enough.
talking with another guy who knows the butcher real good and I guess the CO's are running thier asses off trying to deal with guys not following the new regs up here. So ya, maybe the young fella was at his witts end and thought I was yet another miscreant not following the regs.
I've dealt with fish cops more than hunting cops but I will say 99% of my interactions have been amicable and uneventful.

on the other hand.... I could come to the day when I've had enuff of the never ending restrictions on hunting each year and just call my lawyer while I pull out my metis card LOL That and tell trudeaus gun grabbers to fack off while i languish under the treaty 6 provisions that clearly state I have a "right" to firearms.

but untill then, I'll continue to play by the rules laid out in front of us all like I always do :) Not gonna let one rotten apple CO ruin it for me after all.

well kids..... I've delayed my hunting trip 2 days while I was hoping my buddy would put his gawdamn tools down and leave the work to his boys while we get some hunting done but waiting is a fools errand..... and the mountains are calling me.
I'm going bear hunting ..... cheers and have fun out there

Not sure why you quoted my post, but as I pointed out - in BC a Metis does not have the rights to hunting/fishing that the other 'Indigenous' people have.
They are exactly like everyone else. Take a CORE Course, get a FWID, buy Tags, follow the Regs.

I won't speak for 45ACPKING's intentions for this thread, but based on posts of his I have read previously he does not play the 'race card', FWIW.
It seems to me he believes Metis will have full Indigenous rights here at some point, then he will be free to do whatever he likes when he likes...... that's just my take on it.


Back to the original post, I have met a #### fish cop here once but generally the CO's have been good to deal with. They are under staffed and under budgeted and it seems to me most are trying to do a good job.

There isn't a single altercation with LEO where you are not physically in danger that you can/should touch them. If you do, you deserve nothing but cuffs and a ride to the closest Police Station/Detachment. These guys deal with retards on a day to day basis and deal with a whole lot of BS, and they still manage to be courteous/friendly 99% of the time. In the age of internet and social media, you can see the extent of just how bad some hunters are. Some of the worst people I have dealt with were fellow "hunters".

Sooooo if you are being unlawfully arrested, no legal grounds to seize your personal property you have to stand there and take it. I don't think so. You may wish to review the criminal code a bit more. In order for the police to touch you , or take your property they have to be in the legal/lawful execution of their duty. If they do not have grounds to arrest or seize property then they are not in the legal/lawful execution of their duty and you can use as much force as is necessary to protect yourself and your property. Go see post 12 in this thread.

Was your buddy drinking when he told you this story?

Not sure exactly how it works in Ontario, but in BC if you were to physically assault a Peace Officer as he is doing what he believes is his job, rapidly growing a second belly button would be a very real possibility. Verbally threatening him if you managed to avoid the first scenario is going to end up with a chauffeured trip to town.

Pretty sure that if you are in the right, peaceably explaining the situation to Johnny Law is going to be a lot safer for your well being than it is to grab hold of the guy wearing the pistol, who at that point would be wholly justified in thinking he has just confronted a tweaker who is now attempting to obtain his sidearm.... Just sayin'....

Not drinking when he told me what had happened but he may have been at the time of the occurrence, no idea, there were at least 4 witnesses. He was a former cop that had some idea where he stood legally, and he was notorious for a right cross that came out of nowhere and would lights out you pronto.

And the CO displayed excellent judgement in not forcing it any further than he did.

You mention shooting people and the pistol quite prominently.
Not how their job works I don't think.

Not an "herb" user.... "CO finds two deer not tagged as per the law. CO asks who deer belong to. Individual indicates they are his. CO states that as per the law and deer not being tagged as required, they will be seized. Individual physically assaults CO"

What part of that do you find difficult to comprehend? What part of that indicates that immediate violence against an armed Peace Officer is the appropriate course of action?

There is an awfully big gap between "protecting yourself from unlawful arrest" and saying "Yo homey, my paperwork is legit and my card is in the mail. Maybe we should figure this out first before you take the deer"
