Am I lucky? SLR thread

So, I pre ordered my SLR many moons ago, and didn’t wind up pre ordering a Modern Sporter. After being annoyed with the wait and broken promises my receiver set showed up. Taking the advice of CSC lots of grease while assembling, take it slow, and be careful.

Barrel was very tight going into the receiver - but to be fair it’s a Norinco barrel (flame suit on). A little sanding on the barrel extension and some grease, a few taps with the rubber mallet and she got on. Bolt release roll pin lots of oil and slow taps and it went in no problem - again tight as heck. Trigger pack was fine, took me a few minutes but nothing like I’ve been hearing on here.

Finish - man, when I first opened the box and saw the receiver set I was not happy. It looked horrible. Again took the advice and soaked and wiped it down with wd 40. Looks way better.

First range day out, shoots well. Didn’t really work up any loads but the gun feels good. Shot 55gr, 4 shot group touching each other at 50 yards. Using a crappy strike fire and the Norinco barrel I was satisfied. I’m sure they will open up significantly, but I feel as though my poor equipment choices will be the limiting factor not the receiver set actual. P mag and Steel pistol mags worked fine and dropped free

At the end of the day, for a $1500 build I am quite happy. I was pretty ticked the way things rolled out and was worried hearing some of the reports on here from initial batches. Hard to say if I got lucky, if Maccabee has gotten its jam together, or if I have yet to notice all the issues that I’m going to have.

God damn it ignore the unwarranted negative press and read the positive posts. Half full my man and not half empty is the way to go because every ma and pa receiver manufacturer has had bad press. Hell I have even had good NEA products that many wouldn’t give two cents for.

Glad you are happy as you have a fine product.

the way some of these guys talk here the glass isn't half full, nor is it half empty , but it has fallen and broken into a million pieces. I'm on my 3rd build now. if you even half ass know what you are doing in the AR world there is nothing to it

Shortly I will add the S10 to that NR group an will point out the MS is a top quality product, however the T slide on the MDI is superior along with having a sleeker look due to no pins. Having said that if you read my historical posts you will observe I was also a “self-appointed “ spokesperson for ATRS when the uninformed posters were crucifying the MH and MV.

I have had zero issues with any black rifle I have owned unless it was my own doing. If you know the limitations and strengths of a DI firearm you will discover at how simple they truly are.

Ok, so my reply is kind of late but could you clarify how terrible QC (out of spec holes, poor anodizing work, issues with the upper) relates to the fact that this is a "black rifle"? Having to "fit" a roll pin to the bolt catch hole so you don't bust the ears off is not a design feature, that's a flaw.

I have a MS lower, it was perfect until I put a small idiot scratch in it while assembling...but all the parts went in correctly and I had to "fit" diddly squat.
 
Sounds like the new MS lowers are having problems with certain reciever tubes. New products seem to need a bit of beta testing and unfortunately it seems be done on the consumer in this industry.

Unfortunate, but they offering a free fix. Again, the customer service is leagues ahead of the next guy.

Mistakes happen, how they handle those issues or don't handle speaks volumes.
How they update the customer that has spent $1k in good faith matters.

I still have no follow up from MDI regarding my issues since last speaking to then on Sept 7. Sold mine as a matter of principle. My parts will go on my MS. I had a fully functioning rifle but will not support a company who will not look after their customers. They can't even be bothered to update their dealers who paid in full up front. They suggest people take files or dremels to their new $1k sets instead of warranting their mistakes. A quality company will admit when they have made a mistake and do what they can to make it right. Even if it wasn't them doing the anodizing they should be the ones to take ownership as they selected them for the work. They should have also inspected before shipping out after the suspect anodizing. I would bet that the shop they are using has never done hard coat anodizing and are not certified as I have never had another firearm so easily damaged.
My buddy had his bolt catch pin split the ear on one side and so far has not been very impressed with the responses and attempts to rectify.

I know this is not everyone's experience and that many are happy with theirs. And that is cool, I am glad that they got what they were after. And in all honesty I really wanted to like the SLR and hoped for another high quality Canadian manufacturer. Unfortunately as far as I am concerned they have marred their reputation.
This is just my experience being a beta tester. For $1k I just expected them to either have things sorted or deal with the issues when they were presented instead of ignoring me and passing the buck.
