De Lisle carbine

Mudpuppy made one in his workshop (fake silencer of course). :)

I have seen some European companies advertising them on the Internet, but they usually have a silencer attached, as not all countries are as Anal about silencers as Canaukistan.

The M3 reproductions should be restricted on the basis of barrel length.
"Group buy/mass build" - the reproduction is not particularly easy to build, and requires serious machining and hand work. The donor SMLE is cheap enough, but a lot of custom work is required. If the thickness of your wallet makes you uncomfortable when you sit on it, you could have a reproduction made. The photos and diagrams in Skennerton's little monograph on the carbine should provide enough information to build a reasonable lookalike with a full length, legal barrel.

As tiriaq said this is not a rifle that can be made cheap or easily. It is very much a full custom job, as was every real De Lisle that was built.

Given the amount of work that has to be done to the receiver and the number of parts that have to be made from scratch you are looking at costs in the range of $1000-2000 depending on how close to the real thing you want to get.

To get the cost of just the parts down to a "reasonable" price you would have to look at manufacturing "parts kits" of 400 plus units. To do this would require a large outlay of cash to have them built. Then you still have to do the receiver mods and final fitting, so a group buy/mass build is highly unlikley.

The Valkyrie Arms "reproduction" is one of the worst ones out there and certianally not worth their asking price. :puke:

I think I would have to pass. Based upon the price, it sounds like the kind of gun I would be happy to play with, but give back to the proper owner at the range.

Plus...whats the point if the can doesn't work? The whole thing was made because it was so damn silent...not because there was a real need for a .45ACP bolt action.

As a practical pistol calibre conversion, there are easier and cheaper ways to do things. In a way, it is like the SSD firearms that Marstar is importing - you aren't likely to have a real one to take out and shoot, so a quality reproduction, even if certain features must be deleted, may be the next best option.

Deer rifle?

Well, if going to the deer rifle dark side, how about a .480 Ruger, S&W 500 Mag or 454 Casull powered Delisle ersatz?
First of all these powerful revolver rounds pack enough punch for deer but their average pressures can be easily managed by the Enfield's action.
Besides, they are all rimmed designs which should be easier to deal without intensive extractor modifications.
And, for countries other than Canuckistan, they can be easily loaded to subsonic range to facilitate muffled operation.
No?

You still have a cool toy that few people have and many want.

I believe there is a kit made to convert an enfield to .45 acp. Saw something to that effect on the Surplusrifle site. Pretty neat plinker but thats about it.
That was the Rhineland Arms kit and they are no longer producing them.

Using .45ACP as a deer rifle cartridge is pushing it a LOT (unless you are hunting muntjac which are around the size of a Labrador retriever.);)

I wonder what the muzzle velocity and energy would be from .45acp coming from an 18 1/2" barrel contained within the faux silencer body? Maybe loaded with slower burning powder than usual?

From what I have read a 12-13" barrel is considered to be optimum for most loads for the 45ACP..
I haven't had time to chrono my rifles but will get around to it someday.

600 foot lbs should be easy. On the enfield action, depends how much powder you can squeeze in and how well supported the case is.

Easy and cheap to put a fake can on the Mech Tech Commando Conversion Unit :).

This thread needed some pics and blueprints.
The Delisle is one of the best suppressed weapons ever as it fired a powerful but subsonic round and did not have the noise of a cycling action. There was even rubber pads so the bolt could be cocked very very quietly. I have heard rumors of them being used up into the 1980's and 90's.
