Clean lead ingots $

I'm thinking about selling some of my casting lead ingots. It's clean and has a brinell hardness on average of 15. What would be a appropriate price per lb?
I was surprised to see some companies selling
Lyman 2# @ 5.00 per lb. Which I think is over priced.

Your thoughts are appreciated

Absolutely. Even at $1, people won't be lining up to buy it, and since it's lead and very expensive to ship, your market is local.
 
I appreciate the advice gentleman. Being a novice....i look for sound advice. I'm not trying to make a living. I'm simply making room.
I asked the question of value to not take advantage or short myself.
Of course this has only lead to more questions......
How does one have the composition determine?
I assumed having a xray done was a joke considering lead is used to prevent the rays from entering unwanted exams during medical procedures. Or does this determine its composition?
 
There are chemical analyses that can be done, but they're not inexpensive. More importantly, you probably can't assume that your entire batch would match the sample's composition. It comes down to it effectively being "unknown" and would go for about $1/lb. Unknown does not mean unusable though. I have a vaste store and it's sorted by "lot" (~250 lbs). I can't say for sure of each lot's composition (aside from it being for exampe, largely wheelweight) but I am reasonably sure that each lot is consistent, which in many ways is more important than its precise composition.
 
You can buy 4% antimony lead from commercial suppliers for about $1.65 lb for clean, processed, with a certificate of chemical composition. Mind you, the minimum order is 1000 lbs and it comes in 60 lb ingots.
Unknown composition is maybe worth less. I paid $2/lb for linotype a few years ago.
 
Yomamma is correct. C$1.00-1.50 a pound for ingots is a good price. Even unknown alloys bring the same.

The limiting factors are shipping, & even local pickup might constitute considerable travel. Another factor is the BHN value of the ingots. Improving the BIN value might take considerable effort on the buyers part. Hence the price....

yes, and the lead might be contaminated with zinc which is another problem again.
 
My lead comes from an indoor handgun range. It's soft lead that a buddy and I smelt in my wood fired smelter. It's a bit of work to handle the raw lead/sand/wood mixture and to smelt it but it's also fun to do. We sell it for $0.80/lb.

To all the indoor range directors think about this suggestion: replace the sand in the bottom of your pit with bags of wood pellets. (Lead and brass jackets do not spark to create a fire hazard.) Think how easy it would be to separate the metal and the wood. The wood could be floated off with water and the lead could be dried in the sun on a large tarp. The lead could be a source of income for the club or divided between the members that come out to the work party. You heard it here first!
 
I am just about to go to the scrap metal yard and bring 1000 pounds of lead there. getting rid of all this, seriously, it's not worth the trouble or time at 100$ per 1000 plated 9mm bullets... I only cast for 9mm and it's a loss of time I guess.
 
Oh well, I just sold all my lead today at the scrap yard, I had 1800 pounds of lead lol, had more than I though, funny.
But seriously, casting for 9mm isn't worth it unless you shoot a ton.

Was never able to get a recipe that didn't lead with 9mm anyway, even with PC, hi tek, lube, anything.
It's a nice hobby if you have a lot of time, but I just don't, with the business and kids.
And anyway, when I have more time in a few years, trudeau will have banned all handguns and semis anyway.

I'll just buy boxes of campro 124rn, load max, and call it a day...
 
I have a lifes supply of pure lead that I was gifted. Autobody and what i think is roofing sheet.
Also some 50/50 sticks I’ll never use.
What would be a decent price on this?

$1.00/lb Weigh out 25 lb lots and sell it in lot amounts. We use wood pellet bags to hold 25 lb lots. Find a pellet stove owner and have him save the bags for you. These bags are quite strong but don't drag them across concrete as they will abrade. Get a table at the next big gun show and sell them there.
