Forgive me if this has been done to death already.

I was shooting my GLOCK 17 recently and despite not shooting much these days I did very well at 10 yards.

I can't say the same thing for my NP29 with the same load. A 1911 with a decent trigger like my NP29 should outshoot my Gen3 G17.

Can anyone recommend larger replacement sights for the tiny OEM sights? The front sight is tiny and the rear notch narrow.

I would like sights that I could install myself with a little simple smithing if necessary.

Can anyone recommend some that they favour? I am not a competition shooter so it is just a paper puncher.

Thanks.

I had King's Gun Works' Hardball sights installed on my older model NP 29. Not sure if these are still available or not.

The important thing to know is that the front site is a narrow tenon.

They went into the rear dovetail OK (right to left to install) with a little encouragement and the fellow who put the front sight on used a swaging tool which spreads out the tenon when it is in the front sight hole.

They worked great.

Anyone who makes sights makes sights for a Colt 1911, series 70.

The front and rear are standard Colt size.

The front sight has a little leg that goes into a small slot in the slide. this tenon is made in 2 sizes: Small (for the Series 70 and older) and Large (for Series 80).

You want Small.

You can do this yourself.

A pair of pliers will twist the front sight off. Stick the new sight in and peen the tenon. I use a Philips screwdriver.

Or have the gunny do it, and watch.

Thanks G, I'm going to try to install it myself!!!!!!!!!

I have searched the site sponsers but no luck.

Can anyone point me to a Canadian retailer that sells 1911 70 series sights please?

Probably more work than you want to do but I would look into getting the slide cut for a front sight dovetail. The tenon sights require careful installation (I've done a few) and unless properly installed will shoot loose or fly off. Any decent gunsmith or machinist can cut the dovetail for you at a reasonable cost.

Thanks tobin, their website seems wonky. Any other suggestions?

I have looked around also and don't seem to find much available in front sights for the older guns. I neglected to mention that I had this work done almost 10 years ago and I think Kings may have already been out of business then so these sights may have been New Old Stock.

My eyes like Red,
You could try opening up the existing rear sight with a needle file and putting some nail polish on the front sight while you wait...... :)
