Expert advice needed for new M305 owner

I think you just found your issue. Now you need to determine if it's not on far enough or if it's on too far. The bit should go in when gas system is installed.

If it's going into the barrel too far, you could use shims or roll peen the shoulder. If it's not on far enough, you would need to machime the back of the cylinder, or lathe back the barrel shoulder, or buy an in-spec gas cylinder, ideally a usgi one, to see if it aligns.

If it's seating too far into the barrel, you could, for now, play around with your gas locks to find an orientation that moves the cylinder out enough that the gas port is not being partially blocked and then function test the rifle.

IT WORKS, IT WORKS ! HA HA HA
I fired 15 rounds into a mound of dirt as I have no front sight now and it went bang every time. I'm so excited.
Now i need a front sight.
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR HELPING ME!

10 thou would not make a big difference.

Do you know anyone else with an M30 or M14? If so, I'd be curious what would happen if you used another trigger group in your rifle. It's possible the geometry is off on yours.

Also, does it feed OK if you cycle dummy rounds by hand? Another possibility is the rifle could be short-stroking, prevending the bolt from travelling rearward enough to pick up the next round.

I also hope/assume you are NOT using a plastic or rubber op rod buffer...?

Is the gas system really dirty?

Have you played withthe gas system at all? Is it shimmed? Have you checked to ensure the gas port is still aligned with your gas cylinder port?

claven, could you explain what people were thinking when they devised those op-rod buffers?. i admit i bought one years ago, but i was told it was the "biggest gimmick" ever devised

Hi Mike, thanks for the pics, always nice to see a rifle. Looks sharp! Good shooting for open sights. So glad she is running right for you now.

Thanks. I really like it and I'm having fun. The iron sights give me a new challenge and I'm happy with the results.
Yesterday I tested the gun for function with my newly fitted sight and it worked perfectly and I was getting 3-4 moa. The front post appears to be 8 moa wide.

it's funny it ended up being a port alignment issue , so obvious but we kinda went after everything else LOL In post 16 I kinda ended up with gas system or binding...... interesting it came back to the gas system afterall. We were actually discussing port alignment in a few other threads recently so it's funny to me in the "Doh!" kinda way that I didn't think to get you to check that before getting you to dump extra cash on ammo. Sorry dude.

it's good to see it was just a part fitment issue and not a rifle with gremlins :)

No worries. Sometimes diagnosis requires a little cash. (And ammo) I've gone through about 100 rounds already and I just figured out i can adjust the front pin. Now I have to sight in again. It was shooting about 11" high.
