$600US for a HCR is a screaming deal.
Calgary Shooting Center has barreled 700 actions in 6.5 for $659 on their webstore.
I don't think I've come across a single thread on the web complaining about a poor-shooting Tikka. Had 24" barrel 6.5 CTRs (or TAC A1s) been available up here, back when I was shopping for my first dedicated long-range rifle, that's where my money would have gone.
that being said, I have absolutely nothing bad to say about the gen 2 6.5 RPR I bought. I was patiently waiting for one of those two Tikkas to hit the shelves up here, but a $300 off sale at Cabela's ended that wait.
the action isn't as smooth as my Sako, but it's nowhere near as bad as some on the interweb had me believe. trigger is decent as well, and the rear stock is usable.
my RPR just hit the 50 shot mark, and it has only shot a single group over an inch (100% my fault) using 4 different types of factory ammo (hornady 140 and 147 eldm, federal GM 130 bergers and Nosler 140 match). I haven't shot for groups in over 20 years, and was more than surprised with how good the gun made my rusty arse look. Hornady 147gr eldms were the last two groups of the evening, and both groups shot just over 0.4 inches at 100y. it makes me wonder how good it could have shot with an operator who isn't a rusty hack. or with handloads.
I'm still a huge fan of Tikka/Sako, and echo others in recommending one over the rest. but the RPR isn't as bad option, either.
