Hey guys,

I've had my RPAL for a couple years, but haven't bought a pistol yet.. Finally joined a range and my membership has been sent into the manitoba CFO.

I'm a pretty serious shooter and I feel silly asking but I'm reading the regs and such and I'm pretty lost about atts and transfers. I'm hoping one of you can give me a lesson in "buying handguns for dummies" ;)

So I don't currently have and att, will the manitoba CFO issue me one once I buy my first handgun?

My buddy has a handgun that I'd like to buy, I'm guessing he needs to start a transfer, is theres anything I have to do on my end when doing a transfer?

Once I get the transfer approved do I need an short term att to bring it home??

Please have mercy on me, like I said I feel silly asking but I have no clue about this stuff :)

My ATT is attached to my License,
Your buddy will be given a reference #, which he then gives you.
You call the CFP and complete the transfer.
They’ll ask you for the reference #
Ask them to email you when the transfer is complete, (it’s faster)

And no, you do not need an STATT to bring the gun home.

I have a liscense but no att that I'm aware of.

The CFO has my club membership on record. Do I have to call to get an att when I do my first transfer or will they issue me an att at that time??

Once you purchase a restricted, you will receive a new licence in the mail a few weeks later with your new conditions, your att is electronically linked to your new licence. If I were you, once you receive your transfer notification number, I would email the CFO with a copy of your range membership card and the transfer number as the title of the email, that way you won't wait a month to realize they haven't transferred the gun to you because they don't know what range you belong to,lol, better to be proactive

As said your ATT is electronically attached to your card.
This allows you to take it back and forth to the range, etc.

As for picking up your new gun, you don’t need a STATT.
You only need a STATT when you sell a gun and are bringing it to the P.O or delivering it to the buyer.

Also ,it’s not the CFO you’re calling.
It’s the CFP .
You give them the reference # and ask that it be emailed to you, once approved.
They in turn, send it to your provincial CFO, who then approves it ,and emails you the transfer slip.

Then you go to your buddies house and pick it up.

Then you wait a couple of weeks for the regestration paper to show up.
And then you can take it to the range.

When I bought my first restricted in February, when the transfer was complete (1 day) they also issued a STATT (both via email) for me to bring the pistol home. I then rec'd my new PAL with ATT restrictions printed on the back (5 days after purchase) and then another 5 days or so until I received my registration certificate.

When you call the CFP, they will let you know everything you need and how to proceed. They are a very helpful bunch despite us wishing we didn't have a need for them at all.

They will want a ranger membership card emailed to them also, before the transfer is completed, you can start the transfer without a membership in a gun range, but it will have to be on file with them before you can take it home.
You can do a transfer without it , if you are just a collector, but that is getting to be a pita.
These days it is quite simple, as a new guy not in the system yet, it will be a bit slower.
I did three restricted transfers yesterday, and approval came today, via email, usually Fax, bit it is down; that is with a fellow that has handguns already

Once again thabkyou for all the info and help.

My range membership card has been emailed to them as well as my range membership info.

So I'll get my buddy to call and start the transfer.

I'm buying a preb cz75 as my first pistol, it's new in the box with all the paperwork. Should be a great first range toy!!

Thankyou
