Can you hunt raccoons effectively without dogs?

I agree with hunter 148. I grew up in SW Ontario. On a warm fall day when the sun is shinning and leaves are of I have shot many sunning themselves in the treetops. This good weather for squirrels. The ones I shot were delicious. the were close to corn fields. Racoons eating Freshwater clams an crayfish may have a different flavour.
You can only at night with dogs licensed for night hunting.

If you can locate a den tree set up an e-caller a few yards from the base and play raccoon fight on it. They often respond pretty good to it and come out of the tree to investigate the fight.

Ive used the foxpro and called one out of the den before. Pretty fricken exciting I must say, cause it came screaming out and sounded pissed. Shot it right in the eye with the HMR.

the rule says a licenced dog. There is no breed specifications, you can take your neighbours labradoodle mutt, only the licenced dog is mandatory, not a dog with hunting ability.

My Dalmatian is the licensed one for me.. just so I can shoot them while sitting on the picnic table at the trailer.

The best bait I've found is Ramik Green (a brand of mouse poison). I had a sealed 10 kg plastic pail or it in my barn. They destroyed the pail to get to the poison and ate every crumb of it. I didn't find a dead coon, so I guess it didn't hurt them. Now I use it to bait traps. It serves a dual purpose. If the mice eat it, it will kill them. If the coons eat it, they'll trip the trap and I'll shoot them.
