Derya Mk12 vs Typhoon F12 Maxi Bronze camp report

Odd that the derya worked and the typhoon didn't. They're the same action, just about the same gun with different furniture. They come out of the same factory. Must have got a lemon.
 
my derya has worked flawlessly for me. ive put about 250 shells through it, carying from target load, birdshot, 00 buck, and slugs. lots of smiles to be had.
 
Yes. I should have bought a Derya. I hope anyone watching learns from this. NAS made an initial attempt to help me, but now wont return any phone calls or emails. Neither will Trigger Wholesale in Waterloo. I hope everyone also takes this into consideration when making a purchase - you won't get any support once they have your money.

Well this convinced me to stay away from the typhoon. Thank you for posting this. I was seriously looking at one, but i think ill consider the Derya

I've done a ton of research over the past few months and there seemed to only be issues with the Maxi version of the Typhoon. I try to be pretty objective and I actually think the standard Typhoon has the edge in reliability and function compared to the MK12. The fact that the bolt release on the MK12 is non-functioning is the number one reason not to buy one. The Typhoon is also used way more in competition is Southeast Asia compared to the Derya and with fantastic results. I also think the Typhoon is slightly more ergonomic and doesn't suffer from the two-tone effect (upper and lower colours being different). This is mostly my opinion, but thorough research would bring you to the same conclusion I believe.

I think this might be a hit or miss issue with the Derya because I did plenty of research myself before buying one and I remember reading posts where some report that its unusable while others report that it is functional.

I purchased my black MK12 almost two months ago, it has the new piston and a 18-###x serial number. I completely stripped the gun and cleaned out all the factory oil and then oiled it up again. I have fired probably over 150 rounds so far and while I did have some cycling issues at first with lighter loads those are gone now. In all fairness more than half of the shots put through it we're slugs. My bolt release works "almost" as you would expect it to work and I have to say "almost" because it doesn't have a paddle on the lever like you would see on the AR. But I can easily just grab the bottom of the receiver with my left hand and with a firm press of the thumb on the bolt release "lever" it will close the bolt just fine. Not as practical but functional in it's current state.

On the other hand, I have a buddy who bought a Mossy Oak camo pattern MK12 around March and it also has the new piston and a 18-###x serial number. Against my suggestion he never cleaned the factory oil and and just used it straight out of the box. He has fired maybe close to 100 rounds through his with only a few handful of slugs. It is cycling better now with the lighter loads but still not perfect. His bolt release is unusable because you cannot close the bolt like I can on mine so you are forced to use the bolt handle. He isn't too bothered with it but at some point we will tear his down and inspect his release lever and compare it with mine to see if we can identify the issue.

I'm very satisfied with my MK12 but I will admit one thing. I'm used to closing the bolt on my AR by just whacking the paddle with my palm and it's unfortunate that I cannot do the same on the Derya with the release "lever" as it comes out of the box. However I'm sure that if I was to swap the lever with the paddle lever that can be purchased seperatly then this would become a non-issue. It's not concerning enough for me now to swap it out but something I would want to try at some point down the road.
 
I bought my MK12 last September and the bolt release works great. A firm press with my thumb drives the bolt closed. It'll feed a round out of a fresh mag as well.
I only fed it high velocity target with a few cheap slugs and 00 buck here and there for the first few hundred rounds and couldn't have asked it to preform any better.
 
A little bit of a squirrel here, but how does everyone figure the Makarov BSM 12 would compare into this head to head comparison?
 
That’s too bad. I have an f13 maxi. I cleaned it really well when I first got it, ran 100 rounds of hunting loads through it, and haven’t had a problem since. Even running cheap champion target loads.
 
My mk12 has been 100%.

The first time firing that thing was fresh outta the box uncleaned and -30 middle of winter in a snow storm and to this day its been 100% no issues I love that thing.
