Just got one, took to range yesterday. One other guy was there and coincidentally had a new BCL with him. Here's my thoughts:
1) yes, check screws. My gas block was not straight, 5 of the screws on the handguard were finger tight at best, I -believe- the buffer tube is comm spec as magpul furniture is loose on it (hopefully I don't have that backwards and I just have a loose buttstock), and the action wase bone bone bone dry. I don't believe they fire a round at the factory, this thing was aunt mabel's cooter dry.
2) definitely lube, and if possible polish the points of contact on the BCG. I did this after the range day when I could see the wear points. The bolt itself is extra tight, you might use the forward assist for the first time on a rifle.
3) The gun is not terribly light and not terribly heavy. The skeletonized handguard seems to help a lot, and was perfectly comfortable.
4) Accuracy with 150gr ball ammo was actually quite good. It was a crappy day with heavy snowfall and with a 4x sight (and my old eyes) I had a bit of trouble with sight picture, but I was able to keep rounds inside a 2" group over 100 rounds. I am quite sure that can be improved when I take out several different loads, as 2" on basically bulk (canpro) bullets is really good in my experience. I expect to be able to do sub MOA. I was using a caldwell accumax bipod on an m-lok rail, with just a rear squeeze bag. Also I had gloved hands so not the best tactile feedback. So 2" was better than expected (I really just wanted to break in the rifle).
5) The system stovepiped the first round, fired 3 more, then had a feeding issue. I got 10 rounds through it then tore it down and ran a boresnake through it a few times. Shot 10 more rounds, 4 refused to chamber even with the forward assist, but I noticed that all of the ones that wouldn't chamber were imperial brass, so I'll take those out of the mix (they of course run fine through my old M305). I snaked the pipe again and put 30 more rounds through it without effort (checked for imperial brass first). I used the 5 round p=mag that came with it, a 5/20 round p-mag and 3 xcr mags. All fed fine after the initial hiccups, but none would hold open on last round (more on that in a minute).
6) Once I hit 100 rounds, and a bit of pipe cleaning, the gun began to hold open last round. That's where I thought about polishing the rails, as the bolt is really stiff (but it's handling a .308 so expected). I had read similar stories of this exact kind of break-in before, but never experienced it myself. I'm glad I read up on it or I could have been swearing after the first 10 rounds!
7) The charging handle is crazy tiny. I have a 1-4 hi-lux mounted, and trying to keep your fingers on that handle in gloves, in the cold, and when a round is tight was unpleasant. Easy fix once I find someone with dpms raptor handles in stock though. I've never disliked AR charging handles before, but this one should be beefier (the BCL had a raptor style I noticed).
8) I plan to order a roller pin for the bcg like I have on my POF AR. The stock one looks like norinco quality machining. Again, very easy fix and I don't think necessary.
9) The BCL was a LOT heavier. Probably 2 pounds or so. It didn't group as well, but it was a relatively new shooter (8 months) shooting it, so I can't say it's not as good. It just happens that he was shooting 4-5" groups with federal premium. The other guy, and this is the truth, said "I would have paid the extra for the stag had they been on the shelf". That was purely from the weight difference, but he could swap handguards and see if that helps. I had put a crappy aliexpress carry handle on mine, and offered it to him, and told him to hit the gym.
10) Brought it home and cleaned it, everything seemed fine, a bit of carbon in the bolt (I need a new scraper for the bigger bcg), but nothing over-the-top at all. Typical for a gas impingement. Mags all held open on last round and gun ran like a clock.
So...overall I am very pleased with the gun (should be for $2300). Would I buy again? Yes. Would I buy it if there was an XCR-M for the same price? Sure buy both, what a deal! I would have pics of the groups I had because by the time I left it went from cloudy-but-clear to a literal blizzard out from under cover, and the phone wouldn't focus. I have 9 different loads and bullets done up here now, and may report back if I can improve my groups. I would be shocked if I can't. I would rate the factory assembly at a B-, the fit and finish at an A- and my overall pleasure-ment at an A+ The only rifle that has ever shot way better than I expected was the POF gen 3 AR. I assume the imperial brass issue was something to do with chamber tolerances, as the COL was fine on them. Just something I noticed. Brass that did work: federal, ppu, military 7.62 and hornady.
I would buy another one in an instant. It's unfortunate that I have to sell this immediately to mike from canmore, as I forgot that I don't own a single non restricted.
