The ring of burnt carbon deposit that forms around the chamber mouths of the cylinder would be my assumption.
Hmmm, I kind of like that look on my 686. Adds to the character. As long as it doesn't interfere with function, I'm ok with it. Kinda makes it hard to sell a revolver as "un-fired" or low round count though....lol.
Lead removal cloth will remove carbon deposits alright...together with the blued finish underneath.Get a lead removal cloth.
