Smith & Wesson Victory 22 vs Ruger Mark IV 22/45

Looking at buying myself an early Christmas present, cant decide between these 22 target pistols. I've shot a mk 3, haven't shot the victory. I love that the ruger comes apart without tools so easily, but I've heard the victory trigger is better, plus it comes with fiber optic sights (a $35 hi viz front post would fix that for the ruger).

Any opinions and points would be appreciated.

I really like the Mark IV Standard, but wow is it ever heavy!

I find heavier guns easier to shoot accurately... I would be curious to know how much more or less they weigh compared to the model III's

Yes add the Browning Buckmark to your list of considerations, there is many variants out there.

victory came with fiber optic sights though. I shot one and like it. I just think it is fugly but looks like best bang for the buck .. disclaimer I own mk3 22/45 only ;P

Polymer rail though, which I've heard are throwaways. Dont plan on mounting an optic anyways, I like blacked out rears with a fiber optic front post.

I think the S&W victory has a nicer trigger and better sights than the Mk IV (target). But I don't shoot the victory often - Too small for my hands. Grip is short and my thumb (left handed shooter) gets in the way causing FTE.
Definitely prefer the MK IV heft and size. I put the hiviz fibre optic front sight on the MK IV - A definite improvement over the original front black post.
You should at least see if the victory will fit your hand...

Smith and Wesson victory is much better I have both and my Ruger stays in the safe as a back up. Just the ease of cleaning for the victory is a major plus. And the ease of barrel changes . They are both accurate but the edge goes to the victory .

My Victory is terrific. Considered MKIV Target, but when SW can be found for between$369-$399 shipped, it's a no brainer IMO.

Very accurate, function great, grips and sights are nice. Tons of mods avail, Tandemkross.com.

Comes apart for cleaning super easy and fast. Cannot go wrong with this one.

Guys complaining about the weight of the 22/45 LITE......
it depends on what you are doing with it.

Steel challenge. its better to be light then overly heavy.

The bottom line is, Browning, Ruger, S&W. Which ever you choose you will be happy with. Again, relating it to Steel challenge.... in our club series the top three 22 pistol shooters use different guns, (The buckmark, victory and 22/45 lite) So, you cant go wrong. Pick and have fun.

If you have medium to large hands you may find your pinky hangs a bit on the Victory.
