Hey folks!

I've watched every youtube video and googled the snot out of this question, but I'm still stuck.

Just received a Dlask 16.5" .920 barrel with sporter chamber and a DAR22 30MOA receiver. Tried assembling them and the tolerance is too tight. Did some research, and tried the freeze/heat method. Barrel went in the freezer overnight and I warmed the receiver up with my heat gun. The barrel was able to get about 1/8" in, but stopped dead. I'm not interested in hammering the barrel in, I don't think that would be good for the receiver.

Has anyone come across a similar situation? Looking for constructive advice please.

Cheers!

You can use a Cresent wrench... use a rag or something on the top round part of the barrel to protect to bluing, and tighten the wrench jaws over the round “top” half of the barrel and the flat “bottom” half of the barrel (where the v-block sits) and then you can gently twist back and forth as you steadily push it into the receiver

If that makes sense... it worked for me!
Good luck

did you use any grease or oil?

Dlask receivers are made a little tight on purpose. You might have to sand the barrel tenon down before it will fit. It looks like you are close so it would require removal of very little material.

Personally I had heated my receiver in the oven to 250f and used a hammer. Light swings with a big hammer is always better than hard swings with a light hammer. It is tricky to get the extractor slot lined up but is definitely doable.

Looks like you are on the right track but may have to sand the barrel tenon a touch.

I had the same issue. Heat the receiver and cool the barrel on-top of sanding. I put some anti-seize in there just in case I ever want to get it out and used a rubber mallet to get it in.

Interesting.
I didnt have any issues removing mine.
I did freeze it and heat it. After that it didnt take much effort to remove.

Sometimes, they have to be fitted.

Its better to have it tight than loose.

MOst of the time, its just a matter of a thousand or two.

I went into this with an assumption that there was a standard among 10/22 parts, especially when coming from one manufacturer. That is on me though, I've only ever assembled military rifles and now more than ever appreciate "milspec" parts.

I can understand tight tolerances for the type of receiver I bought, I can't understand why someone would have to then have run a barrel on a lathe or sand it to fit - thats wrong not tight.

The issue is that Ruger 10/22 have loose barrel to receiver fit. My understanding is that it’s critical to have tight fit to get good accuracy.
If a person buys an aftermarket barrel and puts it in a Ruger receiver it would be loose and would defeat the purpose of buying an aftermarket barrel. I think barrel manufacturers intentionally make their barrel tenons slightly oversized.

Likewise the Dlask receivers are built on the tighter side. This way regardless of what barrel you install you can be assured you get a tight fit. It only requires a little sanding to hand fit the parts together.

So if I'm understanding correctly, its likely this barrel would slip into my factory receiver without as much hassle?

Joseph (Dlask) is a strong backer of the school of thinking that barrels should be tight in the receivers.
you can chat with him if you want the whole story, i did, it was interesting.
at the end of the day i will trust in his gunsmithing experience and go with what he says.

he will or has installed his barrels into receivers for free if you ask.
im sure if you called they would offer the same to you.
i had my last 2 builds installed by him before they came to me.

on the flip side of the coin ive put aftermarket barrels on ruger receivers that you could almost see daylight through.
given the choice i would choose tight rather than loose.
its the whole dealing with exploding cartridges thing......

Thank you everyone for the insight, I ran some emery cloth on it and gently tapped it home.

This is the one I put together a few days ago .
It was originally in a Ruger receiver which was snug but I had to polish the barrel to get it in the DAR receiver
