The MIGHTY 375 Ruger, 300RUM, 300WSM

Equipted wiht a new chronograph (thoughtfully provided by Omineca Source For Sports) I went to the range to check some loads for the Mighty 375 Ruger as well as my buddies 300RUM.

First up was the 300 RUM. Using 82gr of IMR 4350 and a 180gr TSX, 3 bullets went inot .70 " They were clocked at 3224, 3247, 3234 fps.

I was satisfied wiht that, but thought I woudl see if I coudl make a low cost round for practice and checking zero. Using a 180gr Hornady Interlock Spire Point, and 82gr of IMR 4350, I shot agroup rigth on top of the first one, enlarging the group to 1.2"

I was satisfied wiht that, so put the RUM aside and grabbed the Mighty 375 Ruger. I had lubricated the trigger abot, so it was a ittl esmoother, but still not my favorite. I'll ge tto it at some point.

First I shot the factory 270gr, which clocked at 2727,2715,2723 and made this group:

Next up was the 260gr Accubond, I shot groups in the 1-1.25" range with 83, 83.5gr H 4350.

When I got to 84gr, I got a nice .75" group, so made up 3 more rounds and shot this group:

84gr clocked at 2744,2738,2764 fps.

An excellent all purpose hunting load.

I tried some 270gr TSX and got groups around an inch. I wa sgetting near the end of the range session, it was hot and cold beer awaited, so I didn't experiment oo much wih tthe TSX, although they have been accurate everywhere I have tried them, and certainly could do better than an inch.:)

Through this shooting, there were a couple of groups that shot 2 together, and one an inch out, indicating that although already pillar bedded, it coudl do wiht some glass bedding.

Looks like a keeper Clarke. Nice when a new gun does what its supposed to. From a 20" barrel I'd say thats quite respectable for speed. STW update, the things a drill. I bedded it in a piece of tupperware and floated the barrel. 160 TSXs went under 3/4' for 3 three shot groups and 2" at 300 meters.

Quit making me jealous...:p

Actually, it's a good thing that I never fired it..I woudl have wanted to keep it, and I need a 7STW like a hole int he head..

And Layne Simpson annoys me.:p

I hear ya. I've got 2 375 barrels for that gun but its going deer hunting as an STW this year. I'll have to suffer it out with my Sako A111 375 at least for this year. Again, good job with the Ruger. Might have to get me one of the Africans.

Great grouping out of your Mighty 375 Gatehouse. Glad to see you worked the bugs out of it, even with that Ruger trigger, good for you :)

gitrrrrrrdun.

Yes!! ....... A very excellent all purpose hunting load and it does a wee bit better than the old H&H too.

.

That is what the 375 Ruger Alaskan is all about- Time proven 24" barrel 375 H&H performance from a barrel that is 4 inches shorter.

Which makes it the New King of the 375's!:dancingbanana:

So the .375 ruger is to the .375 H&H Mag as what the 308Win is to the 30-06? That about sum it up? Or visey virsey?

Bob:D

The 375 Ruger has more case capacity and there fore more velocity than the 375 H&H, when shot in similar length barrels.

Not much more, but more.

Not sur ehow that fits into the 308/3006 :)

So I quess you are going for more range, cause you won't get better knock down than a 270 grain H&H! Or is it a lighter rifle? Just what is the advantage?

Bob:confused:
