Mounting a scope on a Stag 10

I've never put a scope on this type of rifle before and was hoping to use Burris Signature Zee rings so I don't have to lap them, and they will probably be lighter than a one piece mount.

My objective is 44 mm, tube is 30 mm.

Will the extra tall Signature Zee rings be the correct height?

Does the Weaver style work with picatinny rail?

weaver generally works.

not sure on height. I tried Warne high rings on 30mm tube
with 44mm bell. found it sat too low. went to vortex pro cantilever.
 
Just checking out the ATRS rings on their website, it repeatedly says NOT to lap their rings and that it is not required.

What are your thoughts on this? Should they be lapped anyway? Did you lap yours?
 
I have used three sets of ATRS rings and I've never lapped any of them. So far no rings marks/nicks/ dents etc...you can still check alignment before you mount your scope.
 
Alright I think I'm going to pull the trigger on those ATRS rings unless anyone wants to talk me out of it.

It depends on the quality of the rail they're mounted on. I've never lapped ATRS rings, but mine are usually mounted on NEAR rails. It's always a good idea to check how well the rings line up before torquing down the screws.

Went to mount the rings to the rail, set my torque wrench for 55 in/lb (which I thought seemed a bit excessive, but that's what the instructions called for,) started tightening, and *snap.*

Maybe my torque wrench is broken; I don't know, but now I need new rings.

Have you contacted ATRS? What torque wrench are you using?

No, I haven't contacted them. I probably won't, as it was likely an issue with my wrench. Same thing happened with both ring bases.

I don't recall what brand the wrench is, but it's definitely nothing fancy. It's a 1/4" drive ratchet style. I'll check when I get home.

I would have just used my digital Fat Wrench, but I don't have a socket adaptor for it.

Maybe your wrench was in Ft/lbs.
