Hey everyone

I'm interested in doing some reloading as I just bought a Lee Enfield and won't be able to afford factory ammo forever.

I did some searching and have seen a lot of posts about recent changes to the reloading regulations. I was wondering if I will be able to reload (and if it's smart/safe) if I live in an apartment. I never thought it would be possible until I saw that you can buy small handloading kits such as the Lee Loader.

Do I have to live in a detached home? If so I'm screwed. The most the wife and I can afford right now is a Townhouse.

If anyone has advice, especially if you're in my situation, it would be appreciated

Thanks!

"...have to live in a detached home..." Absolutely not. Your townhouse is far bigger than my 1 bed room apt. Mind you, there's just me and the cat(she doesn't care) so my 48" x 21" bench is at one end of my great hall. If there's enough space in the laundry room, set up there.

I am renting, and I wouldn't want to piss off my landlord. Might be safer to just do it at the range at the end of the day. Do some people reload right at the range?

Why does your landlord need to know? Reloading is legal and safe. Do you have to get your landlords permission before bringing flammable items like rubbing alcohol into your apartment? Why any difference for smokeless powder? How would your landlord find out? He's not allowed to go snooping in your apartment for things he doesn't like. Keep your powder in a wooden box, you primers in a drawer and a cover on your press.
"What's that?"
"Hobby stuff. I'm busy, can you leave now?"

I think reloading at the range would be very difficult unless you're only doing five or ten cartridges. Even then, it would be a huge PITA.

I have never hear of this.

Find a friend with a good reloading setup. Buy supplies and reload at his place. Just save the beer drinking for afterwards....

Cool, I was just a little worried that the regs had changed and said it's not legal to reload in apartments etc. I guess none of that ever came around. Where do you find the latest regs on reloading, from the CFC?

You can reload in your apartment.
I suggest you don't even bother mentioning it to your landlord, lest he invent a new reg on your next tenancy agreement.
Reloading at the range, can be done, (I've done it) but it's awkward, and difficult to keep organized, and that could lead to mistakes. Mistakes in reloading are NOT GOOD.
Best leave that to special occassions, like showing a newbie the basics.

One problem I forsee with the Lee loader in an apartment... I'm not into Lee equipment (though I love their manual) ... aren't the Lee Loaders the ones with the 'hammer' getup.... a lot of bangin in an appartment isn't always a good thing.;)

Thanks a lot fellas

Makes me feel better to know that other people do it too! I saw a more expensive version of the lee loader that doesn't require a hammer. It's like a pair of vice grips sort of. No banging required...

Thanks again everyone!

I would agree with Cannuck... when you look at some of the political aspects, they even tried to ban reloading within X number of feet of your neighbour... then there's possibly insurance regs with the fine print that might have a clause and might not and that's a can of worms, storage of powder and how much another area to consider

start by finding a shooter who presently reloads, learn the drill by going over to his setup, once you got that down it's much easier to know what you'll need... then get your own stuff for you apartment. You need a solid bench or table to work from and there's may ingenious ways of dealing with that... the kitchen table affairs kinda don't work as you have to rip it down or spend your time eating cornflakes starring at your press...
