Hi everyone.

I am interested in shooting IPSC production in the next year.
I don’t have my RPAL yet or a pistol and I am wondering if it
is even worth starting the process with the proposed handgun
ban looming.

What advice would you give to someone like me who wants
to get into this sport in Canada right now?

Get RPAL. Get handgun. Get black badge. Enjoy yourself.

It is a fun sport and you get to meet some Kool folk. Fight against a gun ban by engaging politicians and taking friends and family shooting. If a ban is ever instituted you want to have a gun prior so u can be grandfathered in...

If you read this forum more you will figure out that even in absolute worst case scenario we have at least 2-3 good years IMHO.
So get your RPAL and gun and have fun while you can. YOu will regret if you don't.

I for one jumped to get in on the hand gun game when I heard about the possible ban. Get in while you can.

If 800 bux makes or breaks your life, you have got into the wrong hobby.

x2!!!

I’m out in Surrey BC. There’s a club in Pitt Meadows nearby that runs matches regularly.
Thanks for your feedback, I will apply for my RPAL.

I was thinking of getting either a SigSauer P320 or a Springfield Armory XDM 4.5. I have
small hands with a short trigger reach. I know either of those fit my hands and my budget.

Which would be most suitable for IPSC and a beginner?

If you're in Surrey you should also check out IDPA at Mission and Chilliwack... Less bureaucracy. Consider a PPQ if you have small hands. I found it fit my little mitts the best.

+1. Also ICORE in Chilliwack.
A ban may NOT happen. Yes there is talk, political chest thumping, emotional grave dancing, trial balloons afloat and fear mongering (on both sides). Even if it does happen, it could be years and take any number of forms so carry on with your plans.
