Just put this lightweight 6.5 together . Its going to be mainly used for deer hunting and bangin the odd steel plate or yote at 500 yards . Would love to get some optics suggestions. I was eyeing up a Leupold VX-3 4.5-14 with a custom 6.5 turret . I'm really impressed with the weight so far , don't really notice it being any heavier than my Tikka T3 but there's still a scope to go on it.
Parts used :
Faxon 20'' Big Gunner barrel and BCG
SLR Solo Ultralight handguard
SP adjustable GB
ATRS FH
Radian Raptor CH
Geissele Super Dynamic Enhanced (SD-E) Trigger

excited to see what kind of groups you can put out with this build! as far as optics go, what is your budget? I think that in the interest of weight, a VX-3 is a good choice. If you never plan to compete or anything like that, then as far as features on the scope go, you have a fair amount of flex to what will work for you. You could potentially look at a trijicon accupoint/accupower. I think they have a few models in a similar power and weight range. I know first hand that the glass on the accupower series is quite good.

A point to consider, and what I believe is one of the most important is the reticle selection. If you get yourself a good reticle preferably in FFP, then you may not ever have to dial for elevation or wind. I really like the vortex razor and PST series of scopes for the EBR -2C reticle. I'm not necessarily recommending a vortex, but I think some consideration may be worth while for reticle choice. I'm not totally up to snuff on the most current reticle offerings from Leupold, but the last I saw, they did have a few that would do the trick from my point of view.

Good luck in your search!

I just ordered a VX3I 4.5-14 LRP.
I’ve owned couple of the other ones with the capped turrets and found the small turrets annoying.
OK for most hunting though, I guess.
Anyway, they have nice glass

Ah now this thread interests me. Great build btw.

lightweight simple duplex hunting scope choices are easy, as well as larger high power versatile reticle long range scopes, or lower power AR patrolling type scopes, but that middle ground is tough.

A good not too big, not too heavy, not too powerful hunting scope with a great reticle choice for windage & elevation has always been a tough thing to nail down imo.

Looking for something similar., this thread couldn't have come at a better time. Thanks OP.

Yep , I’ve been deep down the rabbit hole.
NXS 5.5-25
PST Gen 11 5-25
Zeiss 5-25
Sighteo S111 6-24
SHV 4.5 -20
Bushnell 2-5 -16
Veracity 3-16
Sightron Stac 3-16
Couple 1-6
Couple 1-4

I’m done Ha ha

I’m sticking with the VX3i 4.5-14 LRP.
Great hunting scope and also great for doing some target shooting.

The target dot or fine duplex are excellent reticle for both .

Looking to spend about 1k on glass , i want something pretty light and compact . Not to crazy about a large target turret as it will mostly be carried in the bush . I do like the Trijicon scopes , i used to have one , had really clear bright glass and rugged . Yea i will check out the Vortex stuff too , i hear their warranty is second to none.

I've been wrestling with this exact same issue on my Stag 10 build. I put in a bunch of money on a light carbon barrel and want a nice optic in 30MM to keep the weight down but for my application I'm not a fan of the Leupold reticle options on the 5HD and below. I do think though that holy grail mix seems to be closely found in the 6HD. Only 19oz (3-18x) and real nice reticle options but you are looking at a 2K+ price tag. In the 4-24 option (24oz) it comes with the on board leveling feature as well. When it comes to the middle ground of weight and features, the VX6 seems to hold some rare ground from my research but be ready to crank up the Visa.

The vortex razor HD LH is a good optic

My .02 is buy once, cry once. You re running a caliber good to 1000m may as well get the scope to match the caliber.

Shots within that range will be that much more fun.

The Nightforce SHV F1 is worth a look.

I've had one on a 300 WSM for the past couple of years, it's pretty sweet. I'm going to move it to my 308 Stag build when I receive the mount.

I am a big fan of the vortex razor series but just ordered an athlon Cronus btr for my next build. Might be something there worth checking out. Weighs almost a pound less than a gen 2 razor.

I'll probably end up as the black sheep of the thread, but my Primary Arms 4-14x44mm ACSS Orion just found a home because of Arms East's Black Friday sale. I hope it works out.

In your budget i'd look at the some of the Leupold Mark AR and VX-R scopes. Nice and light and most of them have mil/mil matching reticle and turrets. Nightforce SHV and vortex PST nice too.

Im planning on putting the same barrel on my stag as you, how long is that hand guard? For my build I am looking at a AccuPower 1-8 mount on a Larue QD mount. Possibly a NX8 if I can stretch the budget.
