I am sitting here at home after breaking my right tibia at hockey on Tuesday earlier this week. I knew it wasnt going to be good looking at my skate at the time, and surgery ended any hopes of going.

Missing the annual white tail hunt with my son and my buddies family.

Not looking for sympathy but for anyone else that cant make it out for the rest of season, whether this year or in the past for sudden injury or sickness, i feel for ya. This is brutal.

At least my sons out there. I am living through his updates.

Regards
Ronr

Made hunt camp after a recent surgery, my son was able to help me evac a few big deer.
RonR, heal up good & solid for next season, cheers

I know how you feel ronr.i am healing up from a retinal detachment. something I don't want to go thru again.

Wrecked my arms with tendon injuries over the summer so no bow hunting. Work has me all tied up plus the BS two week season with only weekends to go I said to hell with it this year. I will be trying to snipe some coyotes come Jan. and Feb. I lent a friend my yote rifle and he has dropped a half dozen so far this month so I am getting a little twitchy. Lol...

Well, I got to go hunting, but broke my ankle in the process. Got some screws & plates installed on Thursday night. Long road ahead.

Sorry to hear about your injury. I broke Tib/Fib badly twice in my 20's spend the Summer of 25 to fall of 26 on crutches. Tibias are rough bones to break, hopefully your fracture isn't too bad.

My advice
- be careful on ice with your crutches, also those yellow strips and bathroom floors are murder even if wet.
- orange/yellow crutch tips are slippery and wear out if you use them a lot, there are wide based grey ones that can be bought or ordered at the mobility store that are amazing and very stable on ice
- Backpacks are your friend, everywhere you go will be without hands since there on crutches.
- rest all your weight on your hands not your shoulders or your fingers will go numb
- nobody else cares about your broken leg especially at xmas time. expect no remorse parking your car or people to help clean your car for you of snow. (people used to honk there horns at me while I cleared my car off of snow in the parking lot since i'd be standing somewhat blocking the space beside me and they thought I was taking too long)
- Once your allowed partial weight bearing your can swim and potentially bike
- your days of cheap shoes are numbers buy supportive quality footwear from here on out.
- good luck, I feel your pain sorry you missed out on the hunt this year. Maybe next year with a good pair of boots.

Oh man, retinal detachment...tendon injuries? Ouch! I know people with those issues but none are hunters. Take it easy on recovery from surgery while hunting. I now know about metal components in a body. Long road as you say. I wish it was Christmas already with season over.

With the severity of the injury i have, i will be following doctors orders "more" seriously than i ever have. Missing one season is bad enough. The thought of loosing opportunity on more is much worse

Encouraging everyone the same due diligence and solid steadfast recovery.

Add me to the list, Been a few years since I could go more than one , maybe two times a year

Cheers

ya I've been there for a few years now too (20 actually) and recent CT scan is not looking good...... and resulted in having to schedule an MRI and a neurologist..... fun times. I save all my phyisical exertion for hunting season LOL
I just barely make it to my treestand and back these days and always hunt there with a buddy now due to the terrain. I moose hunted solo for the last time last season and haven't recovered. Did a solo bear hunt this season and passed on a couple good shooters due to terrain involved..... went solo deer hunting on some nice flattish ground for a few days and was a good time but no deer. Got a wolf though ;). I'm pretty much done solo hunting so rely on my hunting partners more and more every year. Still, at least I can get out there.
Sux being shored up..... I can relate

Hey...i apreciate the tips...some i havent heard. Your advice is gonna save me from something i am sure, pain or injury.
Thanks for taking the time to post that.

I managed to go out Wednesday with my son and got 2 Elk. I went out with some terrible back pain and it is real bad the past couple days after all the work getting the Elk home. I'm glad I went and got them home but now the butchering/packaging starts tomorrow.

Thread hi-jack here!! But what do you guys do for long term ( like forever) pain management.
How do you find out what works for you?
Aleve? iburprohen? legal pot? combination of them all???
I know try but what doses do you use that works??

Woke up with belly button hernia other morning. Hunting is not over...just less intense.

Less intense works for me. I have an erectus(sic) hernia about 2" long at the top set of my ab 6-pack (yep, still got them at 68) just below the sternum. Due to Type 2 Diabetes, the Doc says I'm a poor candidate for surgery. Luckily,it's not too serious unless it gets longer. I still hunt a lot, but,I don't overdo stuff. My ATV is my best friend.

Sorry about you breaking your leg at least it will heal. As for me, I had a bad fall Jan 2016 after 6 months in hospital and one surgery I am now in a wheelchair. I find it very frustrating because of the LACK of any help or accommodations for wheelchair hunter. The rabbits geese ducks deer etc. are safe now that I can't even get out there.
Because of all the :bsFlag: from some of the hunting clubs who have accessible areas to hunt, they say 'it's a members only' area. If you want to hunt then you have to pay for it $250 to $500 per year. But when your a friend of someone in the club you are more than welcome to hunt there.

I haven't found a sure fire pain relief method for my chronic lower back pain, but stretching and strengthening my stomach and back muscles has had better results than drugs have. I was one of the guys that lived on oxy for a few years and have now managed to function without them. I sometimes use Aleve when needed now as I have the past few days, which work okay until I can function without to much pain again. I should add that I never got addicted to the Oxy, like some people do, and only used them for pain management as needed and not to get high.

I lost the last month due to extreme back pain from stenosis of the spine. Just starting to really recover now. A month ago, I could barely walk up the stairs.
