A nice fellow at the EOHC gave me a chance to try his P99 and I shot very well with it (2" groupings at 15 yards): are those pistols known to be very accurate? I may have just found my IPSC gun...

:D

I would only be concerned with the longevity. I have heard after a few 1000 rds you may run into problems....?
If you llike the mag release, I would suggest a USP with either a match trigger kit, or an LEM DAO kit.

Do an Internet search on the P99. Durability issues are generally isolated incidents and not common chronic problems. You can find someone complaining about a malfunctioning gun for every single make and brand manufactured. You should only be worried if you read about the same problems happening consistantly with the same gun to different owners.

I've been shooting my 9mm one for over 2 years. I bet I've put over 3000 rounds down range through it without any problems. I also shoot a Beretta 92FS brigadier . For the most part I shoot a little better with the Beretta, but with an extra inch of barrel I'd expect it. But their are lots of days when I shoot the P99 better than the 92FS. The P99 looks and feels a lot smaller than the Beretta and there are trade offs in that being smaller and lighter it flips up more. If you can try one I’d go for it. Most of guys at the range I let try it like it.

I shoot my P99 very well, i think it's the ergonomics, weight, balance, etc.
It's the perfect gun for me to shoot, and my kids also shoot it very well.

been shooting my brig. 96 for 3 years and love it but I can get better groups with my P99 .40. As for quality, no problems yet, gun looks cool, and If something goes wrong, I'll just buy something else to replace it.

An old thread but have to put in my two cents worth. I have a Walther P99AS and it is great. No problems after a few hundred rounds of all types. Light and sturdy. Dead accurate. Great CCW gun (stateside unless you got an ATC). Light. Light. My Kimbers are far superior in .45, but in 9mm I love my Walther. And they don't make my pants fall down....

Having said that I just ordered a GUN belt for IPSC/IDPA, etc. It is two layers of BULLhide with Kydex in between. Stiff and solid... no wavering on the draw. No comparison to Walmart specials but then again the price was ten times as much as well. Think it was in the $150 range by the time it gets here. The Walther will feel like it's not there at all. The Kimbers will appreciate the rugged belt. And suspenders probably. I'm not all that sure of myself eh?

I have a P99 AS also. It`s a great gun and more accurate than I will ever be. It is also the only 9mm I have ever owned that I have not had one single problem. I have not had one FTF or FTE. I had bought a crate of 9mm many years back and a few other of 9mm I owned would choke with ftf or fte but not the P99. It would be the last of my pistols to ever go, it`s a deffinately a keeper

Please God..... why do we have to revive the phantom P99 durability issue?? :bangHead: "I heard from a guy, that some other guy says that his friend's P99 once had a problem."

Take it from someone who actually owns and shoots a P99 (and HK, Glock, SIG, Steyr, and Beretta), the P99 is easily the equal of any of its competitors in durability and reliability. Accuracy is good too. A shade better than Glock-type guns, and a shade worse than hammer-fired SA/DA guns IMHO.

Don't believe the hype. If you tried it and it works for you, go for it!

P99

I owned a P99 in .40 in the US and sold it before relocating up to Canada and have regretted getting rid of it every day since. My .40 definitely had some muzzle flip to it but I got used to it quickly and was very accurate. No durability issues whatsoever with mine.

Thanks... I feel much better now with my P99 already on its way.

I had the whole  thing going on there for a second!

I am curious about adding a dual recoil spring(HK style)from EFK fire dragon to ease some of the slide to frame lashing. This may reduce felt recoil and add durability. I have always been interested about the P99 platform( I had a P22) but I could not overlook the ruggedness of the USP design hence I have a USP in my safe.

Bullhide...order from "The Belt Man"?

I have a bullhide belt, no kydex...1.5" wide. It's very rugged and stiff. Your's should lock the hoster down like a rock!!

P99 is one of the best fitting pistols for my hands. I like the P7M8 more for it's compact size but the P99 aligns things and gives a straight trigger pull for me.

I have a P99 in a .40 and have shot several 1000 rnds. through it in IPSC, USPSA & IDPA matches taking my share of wins in class without any problems. Like any firearm it needs regular cleaning and preventive maintainance. It is also my primary daily carry sidearm. My wife also has a P99 in 9mm and has not had any issues with to date after 5 years.

X2... I have a P99QA in 9mm as my primary service weapon. It is been dead accurate (for a combat pistol) and very reliable. In facts, I have shot it for +- 8000 rounds without cleaning it and it was asking for more. I was a full time instructor for a year, so I had plenty of time to test it without endangering my a$$. The only issue I had was a broken ejector. It has been used (and neglected) in any conditions you can imagine: winter, rain, hot, humidity, in and out of the cruiser (hot and cold) and it is still working. It has been drop pn concrete many time. So before saying that this gun isn't good, maybe ask a person who use it in REAL operational situations. Not just to the armchair commandos...
