Well, looks like I want one of those.
Who has one? How much do you like it?
...could be a Christmas gift from me to me. Don't wanna be disappointed!

It's great.

I got mine from Wolverine back in September during their Labour Day sale.

I like how it locks the two pieces together so they can't bang together during transport. I also like how the stock can hold three magazines or a mag and a box of ammo, or whatever... easy to travel light heading to the shooting spot. It also fits in the 10/22 TD case even with a scope on... not in the pockets though, I just put mine right in the centre as there is no reason to separate the pieces if they are locked together. Overall I think it was a worthwhile upgrade.

Love mne.

Got some stuff crammed in under the butt pad. Spare battery for flashlight, small fishing kit, 6' of duct tape, some simple meds (Advil, gravol, antihistamine)

Full compliment as well as an extra 20 loose rounds in a bag, aquatabs and spare battery for the red dot under the duct tape

Modified the lid to take a fero rod, knife sharpener and a flashlight the goes under the velcro (not in picture). I also have a Swiss army knife in the space inside the hand grip accompanied by two allen keys to take the gun down.

For a takedown 10/22 I think the X-22 backpacker should be the first purchase. Is my bias showing?

I hate to be the party pooper, but I feel it necessary to remind people that - in Canada - the law still applies to individuals, even to Backpacker owners filled with enthusiasm about Magpul ingenuity.

5 (1) An individual may store a non-restricted firearm only if

(a) it is unloaded;

8 An individual may display a non-restricted firearm only if it

(a) is unloaded;

10 (1) An individual may transport a non-restricted firearm only if

(a) except in the case of a muzzle-loading firearm that is being transported between hunting sites, it is unloaded; and

15 An individual may load a firearm or handle a loaded firearm only in a place where the firearm may be discharged in accordance with all applicable Acts of Parliament and of the legislature of a province, regulations made under such Acts, and municipal by-laws.

Interpretation

unloaded, in respect of a firearm, means that any propellant, projectile or cartridge that can be discharged from the firearm is not contained in the breech or firing chamber of the firearm nor in the cartridge magazine attached to or inserted into the firearm. (non chargée)

They way I read that is it’s loaded if a cartridge is in a cartridge magazine that is attached (permanent ie: SKS) or a cartridge magazine that is inserted into the magwell (detachable ie: AR15). But having the loaded cartridge magazine within the firearms hollow stock is irrelevant, as the firearm is unable to be fired this way.

Is there any case law to say otherwise?

You two guys with the scope and the red dots on your receivers, does it return to zero between take downs? I've heard that people use cantilevered rails attached to the barrel to combat this.

Also, having ammunition in the butt stock is not a loaded firearm.

Man I hope so. Lol. I will be taking it out next weekend to find out. It does lock up super tight and I'm planning on using it mostly for grouse and bunnies so as long as it's close I'm sure I will be ok. Ive had it for a few weeks but just finally received the barrel today, I cant wait to try it out.

I have had no issues with return to zero and can hit my 2" spinners at 40yrds after repeated takedown and re-assemblies with the red dot. To be honest I haven't tried it with a scope.

Cteve, I like your setup. How are the irons on that barrel? And can you see them with the scope rail you have attached?

I understand the law the same as Kratos reads it. No different than a butt cuff on my 870 loaded with extra shells. Not in the magwell or chambered and meets the definition of unloaded.

Yup sights are clear and usable with the rail attached. I went with the Tactical solutions rail to achieve this, with the std rail provided you cant use the sights.

Well, just seeing how popular that Magpul stock is i guess i can't be wrong getting one for myself!
The only thing is all i can find are grey ones or "desert tan". A grey one wouldn't look bad along with the stainless barrel...and it's cyber-monday! Thank you all.

I love mine.

Great design. I love that the two halves lock together, ammo storage, interchangeable cheek pieces. It's awesome. The only thing that sucks is that I wasn't able to find a grey one when they first came out.

I wish you were correct, but that is NOT what the law says. The law is very precise. It says:

unloaded, in respect of a firearm, means that any propellant, projectile or cartridge that can be discharged from the firearm is not contained in the breech or firing chamber of the firearm nor in the cartridge magazine attached to or inserted into the firearm. (non chargée)

Please show me the case law where someone has been charged for storing ammunition in a buttstock.

I disagree wholeheartedly with your interpretation. Free legal advice on the internet is worth every penny that you pay for it.

2 possibilities
A loaded magazine with gun can be construed as hunting even if not in mag well
What about no storing ammo with firearm
