Magpul x-22 backpacker

There is a lot of other things that can be stored in the butt stock.... rarely am i taking 40 rounds with me when i go hunting....that i think would defeat the purpose of having built a "light" gun. I plan on keeping some hand warmers, first aid kit, small knife ect... Maybe a spare mag at the most while I'm walking it.

***I find it strange...the argument that some have to try and push this subject towards negativity. Its a neat, light, well thought out gun. Made to make life easier for the guy who is willing to own it. Not to commit crime as some insinuate...Ever wonder who's side are you on?

Please show me the case law where someone has been charged for storing ammunition in a buttstock.

I disagree wholeheartedly with your interpretation. Free legal advice on the internet is worth every penny that you pay for it.

It pretty much comes down to the above... A court case where someone is charged for breaching the law via the above definition of "unloaded" which then becomes the way this is pursued afterwards as this is a grey area...

But...

Let's look at their definition of a firearm: ( http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/faq/index-eng.htm#a4 )

"Q4. What is considered to be a firearm for purposes of the Firearms Act and for offences related to the Firearms Act in the Criminal Code?

A4. As set out in section 2 of the Criminal Code, "firearm" means:

a barrelled weapon from which any shot, bullet or other projectile can be discharged and that is capable of causing serious bodily injury or death to a person, and includes

any frame or receiver of such a barrelled weapon
, as well as

anything that can be adapted for use as a firearm."

The definition of a firearm includes frame and receiver, they did not include stock in the definition of a firearm. The above laws you quoted, were with respect to a firearm, by their own definition the stock is not an included component.

If you were arrested to the above laws which mention magazines attached, you would have to go to court and argue this case with a lawyer. Afterwards the rest of us would benefit from you establishing that magazines attached to the stock are acceptable, but at an expense.

So in the case of an early browning A-bolt where the drop mag swings out, it's attached to the "frame or receiver", but in the case of the backpacker or say a steyr scout, the extra magazine is attached to the stock, which by definition of a firearm, is not a firearm.

Just my 2 cents. I hope no one has to go to court over this.

Finally found what I wanted. In green. Bought it from RDSC for $173.00 shipped. Cheers!

Awesome man! The green looks great. I had to search a bit to get the OD green when I got mine back in March. You should be happy with it. Hope you post up some pics when you get it in and installed.

The “attached to or inserted” refers to the magwell (unless it’s a fixed mag, completely different). Ask your CFO and lawyer like I did. Until case law says otherwise I’ll take their opinion over yours.

2 possibilities
A loaded magazine with gun can be construed as hunting even if not in mag well
What about no storing ammo with firearm

In SK gopher “season” is all year (May have trouble in winter), others in different provinces may not have this reason at their disposal.

If the firearm is ever on me it’s not “stored”, and no one will ever see it without myself being present (unless they kick in my door, bigger issue at that point).

I hate to be the party pooper, but I feel it necessary to remind people that - in Canada - the law still applies to individuals, even to Backpacker owners filled with enthusiasm about Magpul ingenuity.

Storage, Display, Transportation and Handling of Firearms by Individuals Regulations (SOR/98-209)
<https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-98-209/index.html>

Firearms Act (S.C. 1995, c. 39)
<https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/f-11.6/index.html>

I think you have misunderstood the laws in this case as the storing of magazines in a stock does not make the firearm loaded or firable at any point
