1-6 for hunting rifle

Leupold has a good selection in the VX 2 and VX3 lines. VX 2 1-4X20 or 2-7x33 and VX 3 1.5-6x20 or 2.5-8x36.
Leupold Fixed Piwer options are 2.5x or 4x on the lower end. Used Leupolds like the older vari-x II can be found for ~$200 on the EE. I have the vari-x ii 1-4x20 and VX2 2-7x33 and both are satisfactory for my needs. I haven't persinally had any experience with leupolds warranty (Korth group in Canada) but have heard nothing but good on their lfetime guarantees.

The compactness of the Leupold VXIII or VX3 1-5X20 is a great choice. Their 1-6 is very similar but with a wider field of view.

My overall favourite scope is the Swarovski 3-10X40 (or 42) from the Habicht and Z3 lines. I have 4 of them. I tend to keep them dialed down to 3X and have taken most of my hunting shots at the low setting. The 3X is low enough for up close and personal in the bush but it is convenient to have that extra magnification available.

I lucked out at a gunshow a few months back; I picked up an old Tasco (Japanese made) 1.75 - 5 X 20 in like new condition for $30.00 (someone had it on an old CO2 Pellet rifle). These old scopes were strong, super clear, and super accurate. I have it on my AR on a one piece quick detach mount that cost a lot more than the scope, and I take it off and on all the time, and it holds zero perfectly. If you can find one, they are amazing value.

I have the exact scope (has a pronghorn head in silver on the side) on my 30-30 has worked great for 10-100 yard shots for me. I recently picked up a new semi for deer and it has the Vortex PST 1-6X second gen and I must say it appears to be just as handy for those two eyes open shots. The Vortex was a lot more $ tho.

So I'd look for one of the older Tascos if you can find it or go with any decent brand scope currently in the $300-$500 range with 1 up to 7X power.
