To be honest this is a foolish topic. As some one has pointed out we have enough issues in our community with antis we don't need more negative attention as "cat killers". Regardless if the reason for culling is a good one.

I agree - when I was a kid our farm cat Boots was an important member of our team, he used to run to my heel as soon as he saw me with a .22. He would run out in the field and retrieve gophers as they were shot - piling them up as fast as I could hit them. Lots of good memories about that massive tabby (still have the scars on my chest from when I was holding him and his tail was caught in a closing door). There was also a couple feral toms that mysteriously disappeared after trying to hang a beating on him.

I don't believe that anyone here is a true animal hater (even if they seem to be to get under someone's skin). Culling feral animals doesn't make you a cat hater any more than hunting makes you a deer hater. That being said - optics matter, even if only to the unwittingly ignorant or uninformed.

above all else a poor choice in title
but no worse than going to countries that eat Fluffy the dog or Boots the cat.
Feral cats, dogs, or any gone wild or invasive animal should be deposed of in a humane way and without needless suffering.
I remember a few certain military postings and having to shot feral dogs, we would use the sub-calibre kit over the 762 because it didn't cause them to run.

I have two cats. They are great pets.

Would I go shoot cats? No.
Would I hunt large cats? Not unless there was a specific need to.

Are feral cats a huge problem? I honestly don't know. But I think that in Canada they are not.

Do I think that shooting them is morally or ethically wrong? No.

Feral cats do play a big part in reducing disease bearing rodent populations and in some ways serve a purpose in public health.

Cats do good work in the barn. Cats had historically done good work on ships.

Society would not be where it is now without feral/domesticated cats.

I do agree with some others here this topic can not really do anything to help the public perception of gun owners in Canada because we should not be making more enemies (especially animal lovers/activist types as they are emotional and vocal)

That said. Cat owners do need to be responsible and have their pet fixed. Also cat owners should be responsible for what their pet does. And not let it bother neighbors.

Anyway. How Is this a serious question. What about cats makes it a question. Any small game caliber works.

Feral cats have less impact for the environment than people. So if you feel that strongly that your duty is to protect the native species and environment you should give up your vehicle, grow your own food, or just check out of the gene pool.

My thoughts exactly.
My grand parents own a farm, now without animals anymore as they are getting too old to care for them.
Grand dad always relied on having feral cats around to keep the chicken coop free from rodents, but he hates cats, it was a love hate relationship.

Let's say as soon as he spotted a cat that was feeling slightly ill or diseased, he would shoot it at first chance.
Would also shoot a big part of females so it doesn't get out of hand.
It's unbelievable how many cats would come out of that coop with a rodent in mouth, they did their jobs.

In the past I felt bad looking at time execute cats and dogs, chicken, pigs, or whatever.
Now I would be ok with it for sure, he did tell me, that if he gave them names he couldn't kill them anymore, other than his dogs once they are terminally ill.
So all these nameless cats on his farm, had a job, if they got sloppy or sick, he used a cooey 22 to dispose of them!

An SKS would be ideal for them.

Can confirm, my cat seems to prefer it.

Well, normally I would agree. But when you have an expert cat hunter using a .300 Win Mag and not getting over penetration with a 180 grain Weldcore, it really makes you think. Am I using enough gun?

Purrfect! The original question has been answered a dozen times. I hope we can move on!

Ok. I give up. C'mon. There is NO WAY anyone actually thinks that's a serious question, is there? No way. No way anyone could think that there's really a question as to whether or not a Partition or TSX is necessary, or whether a .300 Win Mag is necessary on a CAT?

That video is bonkers. The aussie claiming a .300 Win Mag works well and he doesn't get over penetration is patently absurd. I'm sure he's trolling... he has to be. No way a rural aussie living in a shack is spending $1.50 plus a shot to eradicate feral cats. I assumed (oops) that everyone else would pick up on that too.

I suppose it's a sad commentary on CGN that it's even remotely possible that a question that stupid would for even a second be entertained as being genuine, and that it's not impossible someone would ask a question that dumb.

WTF is it with Australia. I mean their big four are Rabbits, cats, little dogs and frogs. We need to send them some bears or lions or less cuddy ####.

Why is it people can say really dislike snakes, but not cats ? Can't stand em, no use for em.

Is this a politically correct thing that's gotten out of control or something ?

Areas that have a real feral cat issue have a problem to deal with no different than say a coyote population that's gotten out of hand. The destruction is real and tangible.

Screw PC. Man up and deal with the problem if your particular area has one, and some do. Doesn't mean I/we feel the need to splatter the neighbours fluffy annoying cat. BIG difference.
