Yep... & good old reverse engineering (for the most part) gave them a reliable engine. Had to laugh at the engineer walking into the plant with soft soled shoes.

It only had a few deficiencies.

The 37mm cannon was a short range affair that was effective on bombers, but ineffective at fighter to fighter engagements. Another 27mm gun would have been better.

It had a conventional horizontal stabilizer and elevator. At high speed this is ineffective. the Sabre had a flying elevator - much better at high speed.

At the time making good ,effective bomber interceptor was priority nr1. Until Mig-15 Soviet VVS didn't have proper bomber interceptor since Both La-9 and La-11 turned out to be troublesome birds and Mig-9 had set of its own major issues.Koren War proved that Mig-15 was a winner and production of other fighter Yak-23 was stopped altogether.

In 1945 things were so bad rumor says Soviets collected all FW-190s they could find and repair just so they can be stationed around Moscow and Leningrad and high altitude interception techniques can be developed and implemented.
