Lube your AR

What the hell do you possibly expect me to say to your ridiculous inferences?

I'm not sure - however, I would say YOUR inferences that the AR is 'finnicky', 'needs to be replaced', 'only reliable in ideal conditions', etc. etc. are faaaar bigger stretches of the imagination than say, my inference that you live in your mom's basement or that you are a poser.

My inferences are far more likely to be true.

^Haha don't worry about it man.

If I cared about what e-thugs like canucklehead had to say I prolly wouldn't be a forum user anyways.

I was willing to carry on a civilized conversation and if you all think my opinions are so flawed maybe you coulda given me some useful insight but seriously if some guys can't refrain from saying stupid things like "you live in your moms basement" or "you shoot airsoft" or "you're a poser" then I'll just leave this thread alone.

Haha oh that's rich.

Either way, we're all still waiting for your alternative suggestion to the AR platform.

YEs, but there are machines out there that are more suited for the job. That's all I meant when I said the AR needs to be replaced.

... all I hear is crickets....

It won't matter what you suggest. The AR people here will be able to counter most suggestions. EVERY gun has positives and negatives. Of all the guns in use around the world......the AR design, being one that has been in use for 35+ or more years, says good things about it Matt_P! It's just funny how that works, gun lovers take insults to their guns the same as personal insults. But yeah, you gotta give a good alternative......because you basically just said it should be replaced just because......it jams and has some issues. Anyway........

Yeah, me too. I'm also curious why the M4 was almost 5 times more likely to jam with light lubrication than the M16?

my guess is that the m16 has a longer gas system, allowing the system to run abit slower and more consistant.

the m4 has a short but very violent pulse due to the short barrel and even shorter gas system

my how the simple topic of light or heavy lube has gone down hill so fast......:runaway:

Yup...its like the debate over which trucks are better, Chev, Ford or Dodge.....Heated tail gates vs non heated tail gates....

I wonder how many people here have been able to partake in the testing of weapons under various conditions? The lengthy documentation to support the results? Hmmmm, Me thinks not very many....

Having played extensively with various gov't supplied firearms such as the HK, AR, C8, AK and other types over the years....on one way ranges in various weather conditions.....each has it's strong points as well as its weak points. Yes the FN and M14's are great rifles....so are the old Enfields.....blah blah blah......the Fed's are not going to bring them back any time soon and give them to our lads......So get over it. The C8 C7 system is a proven design, and it works. For now it meets our military's needs.....Ask the guys who have been over there on the 2 way ranges. It works. For that matter so does the AK. They all need regular maintenance. There will always be those who will say X is better than Y. So be it.....

Ummm...

If I was at the helm, I'd replace all C7 & C8s with the Sig 551 & 552s
I'd ensure they came with adjustable stocks, flat-tops and a railed front handguard. I'd top them with (for the most part) ACOGs & Eotechs.
While I was at it...
I'd replace the Inglis Hi-Powers with Glock 17s & 19s.

And of course release all those glorious surplus firearms to the Canadian Public!:D

Sig's 551/552 Be nice, But gotta remember that not everybody able to carry them, They're gotta be female friendly. Your looking at 9 -12LB firearms after they're modded.

Why Not SIG 226 (Replace Brownings) since they're all ready in the system, Parts are available. Also Eotechs are Issued.

The Sig 551 is roughly the same as the C7 in weight...

I like the 226, but the Glock is a proven design that is cheap like borscht...You'd need to make up some cash flow with a wholesale small arms swap.

The SG551's equivalent is M4 - 14.8" ( in reality, about 13" of real barrel minus the flashsuppressor). We are talking about 7.7lb vs 5.8lb.

Apple to apple, the SG550 is 9.1lb vs 7.5lb of the C7.

I still perfer to carry a C7/C8, Just because its more compact, less bulky,

Right, but my point is I don't believe we need a general service rifle with a 20" barrel...

As mentioned previously - this was a torture test - not a realisitc example of typical usage.
Of all the guns I could carry - I carry a 16" midlength gas system DI M4 style rifle.
