I didn't think of that... I'll try again with a couple of dummy rounds

It's a last shot bolt hold open feature so when the mag runs dry, the bolt locks back, you reload the next full magazine and then release the bolt by pulling back on the charging handle and letting it fly forward.

Not all semi carbines have the last shot bolt hold open feature so its easy to miss if your not aware of it.
Glad you got it sorted.

You can usually override the hold open by pressing down on the follower while manipulating the bolt carefully so you don't pinch your finger.

update.

put 100 American Eagle through it, had 1 stove pipe.
ordered 750 rounds or re-manufactured ammo from Western.
250 115gr
250 124gr
250 148gr

so far no problems, everything is running like a top!

2 weeks in and up to almost 1000 rounds with no issues.
been all cold weather running -15 to -20, the initial G96 cleaning is paying off for sure!

gonna try to get out with the shooting bench and a big optic and see what kinda of accuracy i can get at 25, 50 and 100m with 9mm ammo.
that is my mission for this week.

I doubt the cleaning has anything to do with performance. Shot my first one for nearly 600 rounds before I ever cleaned it and had no issues.

ever have a AR freeze up mid mag?
i have.

now i clean all guns when i get them with G96 and i no longer get guns that freeze up mid mag.
lots of companies from the US use very cheap thin oils at the factory and they freeze up.
on the flip side of that unlike China that uses heavy oils that gum up in cold weather.

its more of a Northern Canadian thing than a 'all new guns should be cleaned with a good oil' thing.

Not saying factory oil is great, just saying that the lube used has no effect on reliability other than temperature based like you said. Like you I use lubricants that are rated for extreme cold.

ETA: Bass Pro Calgary has at least 1 Ruger PCC in stock.

That’s good to know .... I’m unlikely to be out in those kind if temperatures with a 9mm rifle or even a semi or even, but you never know what emergency situation you might find yourself in.

ya know i video'd myself taking it down and giving it its first G96 but when i went back to edit it and watched it i noticed that i must have been REALLY bored because i was talking the ENTIRE time through the video like a kid hopped up on caffeine!

then the video i made from the range for some reason was all just a bit out of focus so its all garbage so i just trashed all the video's.
i do however have the 2nd one brand new in the box that just arrived.
i could do it all over again.... without talking like a withdrawing meth head through the entire video....
and yes, it is winter up here in the North and yes i have been locked up in my shop for days when i made the video!

ya, ill make a video, im back on shift for a week so when i get off next week ill do one up.
one worthy of this nice rifle!
That would be fantastic..

tore down the 2nd rifle today and gave it a cleaning and a G96.
super impressed with the fit and finish on these guns.

I bought a lile like new rifle off the EE fella said 100 rounds fired.
Got it for 750 shipped to my door I can't wait. My 9mm kriss needs a buddy to play with lol

Picked one up at Cabelas for just under eight hundred. I want to put a weapon light on it. Was reading on an American gun site about troubles with some mounts not fitting on the lower front stock. Is it not a MIL-STD-1913 / Nato rail ?

Anyone have a recommendation on a system ?

I gotta admit that I'm intrigued by these little carbines, I'm debating myself whether or not I should spend part of my xmas bonus on one.

I think the fit issue is there is little rail space and the stock itself gets in the way of it, nothing to do with spec
