Browning BAR 270 Win ammo choice

Just got a new to me Browning BAR in 270 Win. Seems in good condition for a 50 year old :d

Looking for some suggestions with regards to ammo choice - MFR, weight, type.

Going to use it for punching paper.
 
Any factory ammo will work fine for you. Can I ask why you selected a BAR to punch paper? Not to put down the BAR but semi autos are typically not the most accurate platform for paperpunching. They are great hunting guns and can have good to great accuracy but typically have crummy triggers that are difficult to modify. To get best results for paper targets reloading would be the best way to tailor a load for your BAR. Note if you decide to reload you may need "short base" dies for a semi-auto to cycle correctly. You would also likely have to keep charges to mid levels to get consitent pressure to cycle the action reliability. Others with more experience with these rifles may chime in. My experience is limited to a few that I have shot over the years. Just to end on a positive note my friend had a BAR .270, that gun shot 1/2MOA with Winchester supreme ammo 130gr I believe. I would say if you are shooting Factory, experiment with different manufactures ammo, if you find ammo the rifle shoots well buy five years supply with the same lot #

I have had a few bars. Have never needed a small base die.

Ganderite, our powder guru suggests powder that is fast for the range usually used for caliber. Reason being that peak pressure has passed by the time gasses reach the gas port.

Every Bar i have owned shot moa or better, some much better.
 
I had a older safari in 270.It liked the red box winchester power max in 130 gr PHP.It was hard on brass(stretched them bad so I quit reloading for it) and the boughten ammo was fairly cheap.

I own a well used 40 year old BAR and the trigger is amazing. The size and shape fit my finger perfectly, its 'gold'....;)..Seriously, no creep, light crisp pull, feels like snapping glass - better than many, many other - very fine rifles I have owned over the last 40 years. This I found surprising. Maybe I just got a special one. In as far as modifying, not sure why you would want to on this model of rifle, however the trigger group is easy to access, drops out as a unit and is a marvel of Browning engineering to behold!!!

As far as your question, I have always used the cheapest SuperX with exceptional results to 200yds..
Can't justify the sky high prices of so called 'premium' rifle ammo these days...

I have a 270 BAR here that will absolutely not cycle spire point bullets with the current mag (Belgian rifle, Portuguese mag).
It cycles round nose without issue.
