My Shadow 2 Optic ready arrived this week (Thanks Al Flaherty) We all know there is no optic mounting plate for sale yet, but I decided to 3d print one out of Carbon Fiber reinforced PLA. It is a bit higher than the factory one would be as I had to put 2 nuts under it to mount the optic as the holes in the slide are not the optic mounting holes as in some other optic ready pistols. Seems to be a good strong setup but I haven't had it to the range yet to test it. I am viewing this as a temporary measure until the plates show up.

Should be a winner. Very nice. At some point you might want to lose the FO front sight. I picked up the front FO on my PPQ during a match and promptly fired two rounds over the target. LOL. Seems I mistook the FO for the red dot of the Optic while doing a poor imitation of Bob Vogel. Once you get used to the Optic the need for co-witness sights etc becomes pretty moot. I would be surprised if you don't notice the slide moving slower. You might want to go to a lighter recoil spring if you have not already.

I have been shooting a older Shadow 2 with the Henning mount and Vortex Viper for a few months now. Went the Optic Ready route to get the dot closer to the slide. Seems like this one had a lighter recoil spring right out of the box. I think I am going to shoot it for a bit before I change the springs.

Bob, I think there might be an aftermarket potential for a simple replacement of the front sight to avoid exactly what you're talking about. There needs to be something there to hold the roll pin that holds the bushing in, so simply removing the front sight doesn't work. but just a slip in plate would.

Jeez Rob that is the 2nd time I forgot about that damn pin. The first time resulted in my bushing flying off into neverfindland. Right now I have my Vortex on my SIG 320 XFive. I am going to have to do something about the front sight. When it was on my PPQ I just removed the front sight.

For those who have not shot an Optic before it is very easy to pick up a FO front sight instead of the red dot in the Optic when shooting fast. I din't even notice it until my friend Troy announced "down 10", "Down 10" to the entire squad followed by a host of comments, none of which bare repeating....... All in good fun. :>)

yeah lots of guys take the FO out, but the front site post is still there and guys catch that sometimes.

Or replace the red fiber optic insert by a green (or other non-red) one.

Same issue Slavex referenced. Under the stress of shooting quickly there is a chance the shooter will revert to the front sight. I can honestly say when I did it I had no conscious awareness of doing so.

As far as the Shadow2 goes I will be surprised if there is not going to be other issues. Unless CZ purposely lightens the slide vs using the existing slide shooters are going to need to spend time determining the best recoil spring set up for the gun. SIG and PPQ to name two optic ready guns I own have not only cut holes on their slides but have sculpted every bit of metal they can out of the in of the slide to lighten it. The weight of the Optic plus the mount impacts the dynamics of the slide significantly. eg. Oddly my XFive went from dropping the fired case off to the right about three feet to sending them forward, backward and anywhere in between once I mounted my Viper. Another shooter with the same set up experienced the same thing. Nothing that affects the operation of the gun but makes chasing brass an interesting exercise. :>)/

I've now shot an entire season with the Optic on my old Shadow and I can't imagine picking up the front fiber instead of the dot, for me to accomplish that the index would be so far off it would be noticeable I'd think. That is with the dovetail mount, maybe different once you get it lower I suppose but I never noticed it as an issue with the Q5 match I shot for a month either.

Received mine today really nice pistol can’t wait to try it. shame they got rid of the back serration tho

Edit: i haven’t received the extended safety lever with mine, did any of you guys got it? Or did CZ drop it from the package?

Yeah, even I am well aware of the back serration is gone my muscle memory still trying to reach for that all the time!!! I guess I will need a bit of getting used to it before using it in competition.

As for the extended safety, I don't have it in my package either.

Back to my original post about 3d printing the adapter plate. I was able to test it last night. Got it zeroed in without much effort and put about 100 rounds through it with no issues. Going to shoot a match with it this weekend to give it the torture test.

Just an update for those that are interested. Wolverine has a couple of the plates in stock already. I was able to order the one for my Vortex Viper, they also have the one for Leupold Deltapoint. They are $82
