Hi there. I have a winchester model 70 in .300 win mag. it currently has the drop out floor plate and i would like to convert it to a magazine.
The information i have right now is the gun was made in the 70's. It has a PUSH FEED BOLT. and it has a 2 piece trigger guard / floor plate assembly.
Can anyone help me out with what parts are needed to do the conversion to a magazine?

Good luck with that. I have looked for years to find a conversion for mine. I just got used to the floor plate and now I realy like it. I never loose my magazine anymore. The winchester mod 70 seems doesn't seem to be as popular for after market parts, not like the rem 700. Of all the shooting sites I have been on, I have found no one that has done a custom build with a winchester action. Lots of remingtons and savages but no winchesters. I love my model 70, and it has been a great gun but trying to find stuff like magazine conversions has come up empty.

Why screw up your rifle with something you don't need. A hinged floorplate, when it works properly, is the best magazine system ever devised for a bolt action; everything stays with the rifle, so there is nothing to loose or misplace. Now a conversion that is an advantage is an H&H length magazine box so you can seat out your bullets so there isn't that long jump to the rifling. Those long rounds in a stock M-70 XTR have to be single loaded since the magazine box is too short, and when unloading an unfired round, the bolt release has to be used to withdraw the bolt far enough for ejection, since the bolt stop is too long. With your bullets seated longer, instead of shooting 1.5 MAO groups, you'll start shooting sub-minute groups once a suitable load has been worked up.

If you absolutely have to have a detachable magazine for that rifle, check out Midwest Gun Works; they make both M-70 XTR and CRF detachable magazines and bottom metal that will work with the .300 Winchester. I'd give them a call to see if they ship to Canada. Phone: 636-475-7300

This.^^^ A detachable mag is just one more thing to lose. I won't have one if I can avoid it.

The way I hunt I just load up in my stand and sit most of the day or I load up when I get to the trail and then I’m good for the day
Magazine is just another thing to get in the way
