I’m wondering what do the guys with a CCW permit carry when south of the border ?

Not looking for prohibs, as I don’t have a 12-6 on my rpal. Just looking for some recommendations for a decent size 9mm.

I’m not a fan of Glocks. And I prefer polymer but I’m open to steel, as long as it’s not a brick like my shadow.

Also looking for holster recommendations.

Thanks

The G19 is as close to maximum size you want as a CCW gun. Especially if you’re in warmer climes.

Most Yanks carry the M&P Shield or the smaller Glock family. Since you can’t and don’t like Glocks, maybe the CZ P-10C? If you want a metal gun, maybe a Colt Combat Commander?

What holster depends on where on your body you plan on carrying the gun. Also, OWB or IWB.

People carry pretty much what ever they want down south..... they have more options then we do for compact guns.
Climate and clothing comes into play.

Where do you intend to CCW and what will you be wearing?

That's right.

The 12(6) bullsh*t only applies in Canada.

My recommendation would be the Walther PPK (or similar gun) in 380. (Would also prefer stainless for corrosion).

It's small, relatively light, easy to conceal, especially under clothes, and powerful enough to get the job done when up close and personal.

Buy a compact with a Canadian Barrel up here, buy a short barrel down there to swap out when you go and leave it there with friends or family, even a safety deposit box. That way you can practice up here and CCW properly down there.

I think I will be carrying behind my hip. But again, this will be new to me, and I may find it uncomfortable but I think that would be the most uncumbersome place.

Most likely wearing jeans or range pants.

I own a m&p22 and I like the geometry. I guess the m&p9 could be an option.

I do love the cz geometry too and it’s a accuracy even more . What about a p07 ? Or is the p10 smaller ? I’ve unfortunately never handled either. I’ve shot a p09 and love it. But it’s just too damm big

Are you looking to bring a gun from up here or do you have the legal ability to buy and store a gun down there? If you can get something down there, that opens up a literal ton of new options including the CZ compact models. You may not have to give up the geometry you love.

I have a derringer in 45. So i thought about the 2 1/2” barrel swap. But that’s only 2 shots. What other pistols would work ?

Literally any pistol available that you can swap barrels with. I’m a Glock guy so I can’t help you much but with a 26 or 43 up here you could swap barrels down south. It would work with the M&P pistols too, if you find a compact with a Canadian Barrel.

Makes sense to me.

I can’t store or buy a gun in the us. I could stole a barrel and mags in a PO box. But I’d have to bring down my pistol with me.

I will look at compact pistols with Canadian barrels. I never looked at those before because I never Needed one

Glock 19 with threaded barrel. My second choice would be a Glock 19 Gen 4 with the canadian barrel barely longer than the prohib one

Several states will issue them to Canadians. NH issues non-resident permits to Canadian PAL holders with no course.

I always find it ironic that a Canadian is trusted enough to carry a concealed firearm in parts of the US; yet the Canadian government doesn't trust us to do so here.

Says a LOT about the governments we elect here.

Also says a LOT about the people that elect them.

I carry concealed in TN whenever I’m down there (a lot) and my Kimber Pro Carry II is ideal for me. Thinner profile than Glock and Canadian legal length barrel isn’t an issue for IWB. Also have carried my Bond Arms Ranger a few times since it’s super small. Limited to two shots before a slow reload mind you but better than nothing
