Savage 99 in 308 win

I'm pretty new to the site and firearms and hunting in general and I've looked everywhere and searched here and other places on the Internet and couldn't find the info I'm looking for so I thought I'd post a question and hopefully a Savage 99 guru can help me.
I was wondering if they made anything other than a 20" barrel length for the 308win?
I'm looking for one with an internal rotary mag with the counter and lever safety.
I currently own 2, 300 and 250 Savages in the 99, a 303 Savage in a 99 and a 30-30 w in a 1899 with an octagon barrel that is more of a keep-sake.
I'm just looking for one that doesn't cost +$2 to fire!
I love the lines and looks of the Model 99's (1899)

Savage 99EG's (my favourite 99) were made from 1935 - 1959, starting in 1955 they chambered the EG, as well as a few other 99 models in .308,
the EG was discontinued in 1959, if you look around you could find a Savage 99EG in .308 (24" barrel, lever safety and brass magazine with the cartridge counter).

I have a real nice, all original one, but not for sale right now.

Otherwise, the only other 99's that were chambered in .308 were the 99F, 99R, 99DL, 99E, and the 99C (clip model)

The presentation 99's from the '60's were also chambered in .308, as well as the anniversary 1895 from 1970,
and the reissue 99A from the 1970's were available in .308.

The lever safety was discontinued in 1960,
so you'll be looking for a 99 with a serial number below 1 million if you want a 99 with the lever safety and round counter in .308.

So you're limited to a 99EG, 99R, 99RS, or a 99F made between 1955 and 1959.

I scoped and zeroed one of those, it was a 12 year old girls deer rifle. The trigger was heavy but it shot like a laser. Barrel was definitely over 20", lever lock, brass counter....nice gun.

You might be right, but I've never owned a 99E, the book does say that the 99E made between 1961 and 1984, had the lever safety, interesting!

(There was also an earlier 99E made between 1922 - 1934)
The earlier 99E would have been made in Utica NY, yours would have been made in Westfield Massachusetts if it was made in '71.

If yours was made in 1971, it should have a letter prefix in the serial number (probably an "A") and if it has a lever safety, then you got me on that one.

Picked up today a really nice condition take down in 250 Savage made in Utica, serial number has no prefix, serial lookup implies 1927 as year of manufacture. It has most of its original blue and case coloring which quite impressive for its age. Don't know much about them but they seem like neat guns.

I does in fact, have the "A" prefix.
 
I am a big fan of the savage 99’s. First one I picked up just fit. I hunt with a savage 99F in 300 savage and the lighter weight is great for walking the woods. As The Outsider said there is a small window of 308 lever safety’s and cut checkering from the late 50’s. I just saw a 99F in 308 sold at gun store in NB last week so they are around. Good luck in your search.
 
To give you a rough idea on the amount of pre one million 308's with a lever safety is around 85% model F's, 10% model EG's and 5% model R's.

An EG or an R in 308 pre-mil is pretty hard to find and bring a premium on the price tag.

Finding one in 243 or 358 is even harder.
