Hey guys
Looking to reload 6.5 Creedmore.

How is this caliber for brass? Any issues locating it?

And what is your go to hunting round?
Moose/Elk

Pretty decent, its getting super popular for a lot of stuff so there brass is there it will be one of these things you may have to be a bit speedy about though (if you see it it's stock you should go for it, its the people who wait who don't get stuff.)

Personal preference, I use 30-06 as my all around hunting caliber. Next year I may go to 7MM Remington Magnum, just been really into the 7MM stuff as of late...Make a decent shot and use a good bullet and you can safely harvest animals. 6.5 Creedmoor wouldn't be my first choice for moose and elk but that is a preference thing, not neccesarily saying it won't get the job done, but it nots my first choice is all! Good luck!

Guess the moose my buddy shot this fall with his 6.5cm is going to walk out of his freezer any day now. Place your shot in the vitals and use a bullet that won't splatter on impact. Europeans kill a lot of moose in the last hundred years with the 6.5x55 which is the ballistic twin of the Creedmoor.

Try a 140gr Nosler Partition or Accubond over H4350, RL16, RL17 or Win760. Should do around 2700 fps from a 22" barrel with the right powder charge. If you like monometals, the Barnes 127gr LRX is a great choice, as is the Hornady 120gr GMX. I have seen the 127LRX first hand drop a good sized bull moose in his tracks @ 150 yards. I've also seen the 6.5mm 140gr Accubond completely penetrate a broadside moose, punching right through the neck and exiting, impact speed identical to what a Creed would produce at 100 yards.

They say the 243 kills better than it should. It boils down to shot placement. You'll accurately shoot a Creedmoor, they're a tool that you'll reach for often. Enjoy your new rifle

Following a couple 6.5 CM groups on fb, people are putting down lots of elk with it, and all the pictures of deer shot with them are mangled messes

I will second this, and add;
Keep shot distances reasonable, and stay away from the shoulder bones. Elk bone is the densest of an north american animal, and if the only bullet/cartridge combination that will reliably break that heavy shoulder bone and make it to the vitals every time is the 338 WM and 250 gr bullets, you quickly realize that the 6.5 Creedmoor, while a great cartridge, with those long penetrating bullets, just does not have the energy and momentum to do the same.

My moose tag last year was filled with a 6.5x55, very similar to the 6.5CM. It was a quick humane kill, the moose ran 50 feet, and fell over dead. As for 6.5CM components, Lapua cases seem to be sold out at every retailer I contacted , and several retailers have no cases at all. I ended up having to resort to ordering from X-reload, to get Nosler cases.

Thanks and I did get spelling error later lol

I have the 7mm Rem Magnum but I feel it is overkill as I never shoot past 3-400 and the 6.5 should still be moving just fine.

Ill keep doing some research. the 140gr range seems to be the favorite.

The 6.5 creedmore is TOO small for moose or elk. Fine caliber for deer use a 140gr and 4350. In the end you are looking for a quick kill.

I think it can be used for moose or elk but you need to look at a heavy for calibre bullets (140+) or something like a 130gr accubond, TSX or 127gr LRX. You also need to keep ranges reasonable (IMO up to but not much over 200) and place your shot carefully. Scandinavians kill moose with a 6.5 all the time. I dropped an elk DRT with a 260 and a 130 gr TSX handload at 125 paces (broadside shot through the boiler). It can be done, but the 6.5CM is not a magical killing cartridge for all game, ranges and conditions. Keep in mind it's limitations and your abilities.

Good advice, and this holds true for larger cartridges too. Not many can accurately use anything larger or heavier recoiling than a 30-06, and this comes from lack of comfort with the larger cartridges due to recoil and less familiarity with the firearm

If you want Lapua SRP 6.5 CM brass, Hirsch Precision shows two boxes of 100 in stock.
I have some Hornady brass that I doubt I'll ever use, but I keep it "just in case"

Just FYI and another option- Gary @ Bighorn carries Alpha brass. We've purchase a bunch of 6.5CM brass from him and been very happy with the product.

This 100%!! I wish I could add rep for this, well spoken!

I checked their site, as well as Prophet River, last week, and I didn't see any listed, so I ended up ordering some Nosler cases. Now when I look again, I see them listed. The Nosler are on the way, so I will try them.

I didn't know what to expect when I first started loading using small rifle match primers in the Lapua brass. Several hundred rounds later, the results have been excellent. I've used the CCI BR-4, and have 500 Federal GMM 205M to try when the CCI is gone. The CCI small match primers are considerably more expensive than Federal for some reason.
I think prices have jumped a bit on the Lapua brass, maybe $10 since last summer. I expect they're having a hard time keeping up with demand.
Odd that Winchester doesn't have a 6.5 CM brass offering, considering the market.
