my dad gave me his full wood, 1942 lithgow .303. ive narrowed it down to be a smle mk3 ( hopefully that is right ). it hadnt been fired in over 20 years. so i did a good thorough cleaning and put a box through it. had 1-2 good groups and some fliers. after a bit of research, i suspected the head spacing could be causing me some issues. i brought it to Rob Wise ( excellent gunsmith just north of orillia, i will be using him exclusively in the future ) he has a lot of experience with the enfield rifles. putting that aside, everything checked out head spacing wise, but my barrel is pretty worn out. it had seen a lot of use before my dad purchased it.

so, does anyone here have a line on barrels that would fit a smle mk3? ideally, i would like a "new" replacement barrel over purchasing something thats been pulled out of a serviceable rifle.

any help would be appreciated.
 
Finding a new barrel is not really possible. Finding a used one in very good shape is possible. Swapping it is isually a job for a good gunsmith used to playing with old guns.
 
after doing some digging i found a place in the states that sells new barrels manufactured during the war, was left in a crate somewhere and by all accounts they seem to be good true no1,mk3 barrels. only problem, they dont ship to canada. guess a drive down is in order.
 
have you tried approaching canadian barrel makers to see if they can turn one out? i think i know which company you talking about, they make replacent barrels for milsurp guns, i considered the same but still have lots of life left in my Lightgow
 
i did but at 125$ US im not sure i can get someone to make me one for less than that. apparently these arent aftermarket remakes either, they are legitimate barrels produced in the 40's left in an armoury crate. although, if someone here has had a new barrel made for say, 200 id probably bite

Prophet River or Irunguns can import one for you.
 
things i didnt expect, the process involved for exporting a barrel for a 76 year old rifle would be such a pain. good news, i now have a barrel on its way to me that is pretty much brand new, from someone i consider to be reputable in the enfield business. :p
