Which NATO country still issues WW1 vintage* weapons to their special forces for operational tasks?

*ie, made during WW1, not merely a WW1 or earlier vintage design like the new made MEU SOC 1911s.

Nice one. Lol I suspected that wouldn't take long :)

Denmark, but the Sirius sled patrol operates in Geeenland.

FYI, Greenland is part of Denmark.

Ya, I know. That's what I was getting at... it's not a Greenland sled patrol, it's a Danish sled patrol in Greenland. Though they did used to be called the NE Greenland sled patrol. Bit of a mouthful, Sirius sounds much better.

They no longer use the 1917 rifle, they have transitioned to a more modern rifle

Oh? Do you have a link? Know what they switched to?

I know they use the TRG 42 also, but that's obviously in addition to and not instead of the M1917s.

no wonder they are gone for two years at a time - if they are trying to get a bearing with a magnetic compass that far north - I predict that they walk/patrol in circles for the first 6 months of each year :)
