What could this be?

Bought a bunch of 223 and a box of these happened to be thrown in to the mix. Obviously reloads.

.223 brass, calipers read .28" roughly on the diameter of the bullet.

Any guesses?

Headstamp = .223 rem
They're reloads/wildcats the box they came in is that green one they're sitting on.

Looks like 7mm TCU.

The sharp shoulder makes me think it is a 7mm TCU. Quite a few guys up here used them for silhouette shooting.

Calipers measure 7mm/.28" not 6.8mm

Calipers will read .277 or .284. If calipers read metric at 7mm it is 6.8 or 270 lol. The 6.8mm/270 bullet mics in at 7mm exactly

Often a little humour is welcome. Apparently this isn't one of those times. I apologize for misjudging the severity of the situation.

Looks to me like a fire extinguisher.

"the severity of the situation" might be close to accurate, that looks to be a KIDDE Fire Extinguisher. Check to see if the operating lever handle is plastic. If so there's an urgent recall on those - I got several new extinguishers free and a prepaid shipping carton to return the faulty ones by courier...

It turns out that the plastic handle breaks off when you try to use one - not good timing!
