Hello. I have a SVT40 with railed receiver. I purchased a reproduction scope and scope mount (from Westrifle).

I know, I sound dumb asking this, but is there a guide on how to mount this? It looks pretty straightforward, but better to measure twice. I don't intend to cut, file or drill the receiver.

I searched on the internet and but couldn't find anything other than discussion threads without pics. Did I miss it because of my weak search skills?

Thanks!

well if it is a reproduction copy of the original mount, there needs to be a slot across the back for the lock pin you will need to mill a slot in

Don’t file the notch, you’ll kill any value as a collector gun or resale value. Look at how quickly their value has jumped in the last 4-5 years.

Correct. I ain't cutting. Lock-tite is gonna be used if I need it.

I think the Soviet SVT40 and Swedish AG42B semis are way underrated. (That's my story and I'm sticking to it!)

Thanks for the replies so far.

How do you expect lock-tite to hold the mount on ?
Have you actually looked at the mount ?
If this is the mount you bought you have no choice but to notch the receiver

You can use as much loctite as you want the mount needs the cross pin to stay on.

Unless its a 100% matching gun it won't matter. I notched mine and the value has still doubled ;) Heck ive had PMs asking if mine was for sale.

Well different stroke as they say, I wouldn’t buy one with a filed notch but that’s just me. I have one with a deep red flaking avt stock I considered stripping and re shellacking it, after I thought about it I decided to leave it as it came out of the storage crate.

you need a slot cut on the back of your receiver like others have said,

that said I have a repro scope mount on one of my rifles without a slot and it has held zero for several hundred rounds (except the 1st rd flyer SVT's are known for). My rail was tight and I had to tap the mount on with a rubber mallot. It will never be removed however as I'm sure if I do I will lose the tight hold that's keeping it on point. If you just want a mount that will likely work great and no modifications required check out Badace.com for their no-drill mounts. I have the k98 version and Its a great piece i'd buy any mounts from them without question.

If you don't want to drill/cut anything than you'll probably need a different type of mount than the repro. I know Corwinused to have one and i've used the Adley Procision mount, which works well. They both use the back of the receiver to brace against instead of the sniper notch that the original uses.

Yeah the mounting rail that Corwin Arms sold is a nice rail, I have used one and it’s solid. It’s only negative is it isn’t period looking but it’s ability to be installed and removed without permanently altering the rifle makes it a winner in my books, plus you get to mount any style of ring and scope on it. I think they’re nla now though.
