Why 6.5 Creedmore?

I'll stick with my flatter shooting .25-06
In the right rifle just as, if not more - accurate.
Ammo easier to obtain and less expensive, and the meat eats the same...

todbartell says the 25-06 and Bullets are all OBSOLETE ! :stirthepot2: :p RJ
Talk to qualified persons at gun counters.....the .25-06 has become very popular in sporting rifles in the last five years...wonder why...??

I've been hunting successfully for 40 years. I know what the .25-06 is capable of....and I am just a 'normal' shooter....;)

It would be nice if the quarter bore would get some love from the bullet manufacturers. But I doubt that will ever happen, being the red headed, bastard middle child between the 6 and 6.5mm.

There's actually an outfit in the States that is doing a bunch of work with quarter bores in PRS kinda circles. I want to say they manufacture their own high-bc bullets too. I've only heard good things so far. Name escapes me though. Google probably knows...

I really enjoy how online threads go these days.

Step 1) OP asks questions
Step 2) People give objective reasons why people do something
Step 3) Other people give dissenting objective reasons as to why to do something else
Step 4) OP only reads the answers he wants to see
Step 5) Opposing sides insult each other over a something that doesn't matter - optional but becoming more common unfortunately
Step 6) Repeat

It's a good little cartridge, but I think marketing made it better in many people's minds.

Exactly!

That 6.5PRC though...

It is Precision Rifle Cartridge that is going to gain popularity, likely faster than the 6.6 CM, especially with the hunting crowd that would like to extend their range beyond 600 yards where the CM has reached its limit. I had envisioned this in 2009 when I had PT&G make the 6.5-300 RCM/6.5 EXTREME and am glad to see that Hornady saw fit to commercialize a slightly different version. Their 6.5 PRC Match grade dies make a perfect "shoulder bump" die for my design. Hopefully it does not get the same reception as my cartridge and the 6.5 CM have gotten by a few, 'Short sighted individuals", who seem to hate progress.

This review in LRH shows that the 6.5 PRC is indeed Precision Rifle Cartridge, even in the Montana Rifle X3 with Hornady Factory ammo.

Anything higher than G1 .700?

Nosler use to claim G1 .719 for the ABLR 6.5 142. Pretty sure that didn't hold up to testing, but I haven't followed it for a long time.

The highest BC, commonly available projectile I'm aware of, is the Hornady ELD-M 147. With a claimed BC of G1 .697. That number holds up, IME.

Great article especially this : That’s a 20% reduction in case volume between a Creedmoor-class case and a BR-class case! In fact, based on the muzzle velocities these shooters said they were running, there is only a 4-5% decrease in muzzle velocity from the 6mm Creedmoor to the 6mm Dasher, so these cartridges are simply “more efficient.”

The modern Precision 6.5Grendel, 6.5X47 Lapua, 6.5 CM and 6.5 PRC cartridges are designed like the 6mm cartridges shown in the article. As well as being more efficient they are usually much easier to find accurate loads with low SD. The 6.5 PRC runs about 10 grains less powder than a 264 Win yet the velocities are not that much the 26 Nosler and 6.5 Weatherby run 20-30 grains more powder and get 200-300 fps faster but really no gain in usable energy to 750 -1000 yards. This is true with the 270 WSM and 270 Weatherby when compared to the 270 Winchester running the 150 grain LRAB bullets. There are reports of the 270 Win pushing the 170 EOL to 2900 in a 24" barrel with RL 26, however likely not in a 10" twist barrel. I have designed a modern precision 270 cartridge that should push this .706 BC bullet to over 3000 fps from a 26" barrel with just a bit more powder capacity than the 270 Win. It is optimized for the 150 LRAB and 145 ELD-X bullets and should be good to 800 yards + on moose. Shown on the right next to a 270 WSM and 270 Win.

Yuppers

Everyone chimes in, then things go sideways.

I like the old days,,, go to shop,,, buy rifle and ammo,,, pick up tags,,, then go kill $4!X...

Humans are funny now days as they are after the latest and greatest,,, only problem is that next year there will be another 200 new cartridges to choose from. LOL.

The majority of shooters will be out there having fun with the irons they have as the next group spends a life time finding the magic pixel dust cartridge that still doesn't suit their needs. Ha

Good luck at finding what works since there are thousands of cartridges to choose from with thousands of rifles and bullets along with optics to confuse the thinking.

Our group just rapped up 4 months of hunting across Canada,,, now its ice fishing and predator control time,,, Ye Ha,,, lifes to short to find magic instead of make it happen for our selves.

Always more wrong then right,,, that's what makes life simple and easy.

Dang namitt,,, where did I put those extra mixed matched bullets !!! Nothing worse than keeping things the same is there. Ha

Amazing a new cartridge! Kinda funny how its being compared to one that was developed in 1891 just shows that guns and cartridges do go obsolete just like this 3 year old tablet that I can now barely type this message on.the gun company's need our help we should buy a new one every 3 years and throw the old one away just like I'm about to do with this #$%# gizmo like almost every other thing I own.lol
