m79 grenade launcher

I wasn't speaking about the M203s.

There are several HK XM320s and legit M79s in the country. All in the $10k+ range. Completely legal non-firearms to own, but manufacturers would not be caught dead selling to civs and their respective originating countries have prohibitive export controls.

Are the owners and devices registered under the controlled goods program?

Were these the ones involved when a buyer contacted the Manufacturer, and the MFR notified the State Dept. that the things had gone astray?

No, these were the ones that Allan Lever bought as surplus from his buddies in the Israeli Army back in the '80's, imported legally and sold over the counter. The government here didn't have a fit about any of this until the early 2000's, then they went ape sh*t chasing down owners. They couldn't call them firearms due to the aforementioned issue of insufficient energy, so they essentially created new regulations, on the fly, through Foreign Affairs (or Global Dominance, or whatever they're called now) requiring owners to be licensed, and then made it nearly impossible for an individual to get a license.

Peter Wilke from Ontario gun and tackle brought the M203 in.
Also a very small number of 79s too.
Late 80s I believe.
At the time not considered a firearm.
They sold for $599.
Customs put a stop to the importing, (I can't remember why, I think it was the bore size over 20mm. Don't quote me).
Wilke told me this himself.
He bought them from Israel for roughly $5.00 pound.
He had a big smile on his face telling me that.
To the best of my knowledge only the 1 shipment made it through.
He said he had more but couldn't import them.
They are now considered a NR firearm due to the joules of energy. Not just FPS anymore.
The Controlled Goods Directorate has classed them as controlled goods.
You need import permits as well as registration with them.
Don't bother trying to register with them as it's a huge pain in the arse.
Took me months to do it.
You need to store your controlled goods to their specification and are liable to up to a $1,000,000 fine if a non registered person winds up in possession of your Controlled goods.
You can export a receiver without a barrel as a title 2 firearm from the States. (not sure if this changed recently)
IRUNGUNS can do the paperwork. They were going to do it for me till I found another source.
CGD words to me "we don't care about any personal stuff you have that came in before we existed, we only care about what comes in now"

Hope this sheds some light on things.

The firearms act has not changed.

To be a firearm the launcher must be above 500 FPS AND the required amount of muzzle energy. Either condition is not sufficient to be considered a firearm, it must be both.

True but it’s interpretation by RCMP is constantly changing. They consider them firearms now IIRC. This came about due to Milkor’s being sold, what, 10 years ago?

USGI M79 the barrel twisted like a rifle , the biggest difference in between M79 and other grenade launchers like m203.

Spike Tactical produce exactly the same as M79 in 37mm and barrel is not twisted and receiver is not forged steel and not compatible with USGI barrel , trigger group same as glock. Just the body is the same. Looking good same as Original.

1k$ USD.

The problem is finding USGI M79 seller and bigger than than export from US , most of the guys who is doing import , they don't accept anything more than .50 Cal.

there are a few m79's around in the GTA area I have seen 2 different ones both owners would not sell and both IF they did sell said around $10K ( a few years ago now) (I don't have contact info don't pm me)

Non - restricted , confirmed ,

sent an E-mail to RCMP and got an answer back in 15 min ,

Planning to buy one

some stuff it is worth it to have , even if you can't shoot ,
like #### , watching and touching is enough ,

M79 is a real #### , I think any gun owner loves to have one

You can probably expect a visit from them now in the very near future....

OP - this is as close as you'll get without registering with "Global Dominance" (foreign affairs) which is both a PITA, and next to impossible for an individual who isn't a major donor to the LPC/Pierre Trudeau Foundation. The US will not allow export. The ones in country now are like Unicorn teeth, only harder to find and cost more.

atlantic ordance in fredericton in the late 80's early 90's sold m203's for 1200 dollars. had one and sold it later on. never would of thought they would reach 10k.
