i'm doing my black badge course so i can do a whole lot more shooting.

i have 10 mags, a virtually unlimited supply of ammo, and a CZ Shadow 1

so i'll need a belt? (i do have belts is a competition one worth it? mandatory?), some mag holders? (i have pockets but i don't want people to think i have an erection), a holster, and?

please feel free to suggest what you feel is the best, any systems i should go with, or things that have worked best for you.

thanks guys perhaps i'll see some of you on the range.

The competition market is FLOODED with all kinds of gear. It depends on what you want to spend and how deep into the IPSC scene you want to go.
Holsters and mag carriers can go from “ real world” stuff to bare bones magnet retention and skeleton set ups. Just make sure whatever you get fits your CZ. Buy quality first. Bladetech and Comptech make fairly budget holsters that work and are legal for both IPSC and IDPA. Don’t buy a Fobus or Serpa, whatever you do!!
Your call.

However, one thing I WILL NOT compromise on is a good gun belt. Single or double, your call again, but get a good one.
Mags and guns shifting and drooping are a pain in the rear and can be a safety issue also.

$500 should be a decent amount to spend eh? i'm not too concerned i just don't want to buy junk. plus if i do end up getting really into it i want stuff that will keep up

sounds like a belt is a good route to go.

how many mag holders do i need? i was thinking about the kydex style where they sit upside down half way down.

assume i know nothing.

Fast Toys or Double Tap would be good choices to go shopping for all that you need. I would suggest that if you are new to IPSC don't start out with a full open race holster, go with a Kydex of some type first to build your draw skills. Ghost thunder or Bladetech are good options. I will also second the comment from the previous post to stay away from Serpa holsters, they have actually been banned from IPSC

If you’re going deep, Double Alpha and Ghost are the brands you’re looking at....and they can run more than $500 for the complete set up.

You’ll need up to 32 rounds in a long stage and that’s assuming you’re perfect. Accounting for make up shots and dumping mags, you want at least 3 on the belt and one in the gun. So 4 mags on the belt is pretty safe. If you’re shooting IDPA, you’ll only need 2 mags on the belt.

Not sure what upside down Kydex mag carriers you mean. Personally, I don’t like carrying any mag upside down. Gravity and Murphy’s Law, you know?

I don't have anything expensive for my CZ's as I only do very little action shooting, however when I was into COWBOY ACTION SHOOTING I bought a DeSantis Leather Rig. very high Quality at a decent price. After I bought mine several other shooters were very impressed with the quality and they bought a DeSantis rig also. They make equipment for modern guns and shooting also but I just don't do it that often to buy a high end rig. All his stuff is made in US. Worth a look!

You'll want 5 mags on your belt. You'll rarely use them all, but I've used 4 of them, plus the mag at LAMR (I carry the LAMR mags in my back pocket). You'll see many variations of pouches and magnets at matches, and your BB instructor(s) will no doubt have some examples at the class. I use 5 individual mag pouches (CR Speed), and have used very strong double sided tape to attach 2 magnets on the outside of 4 pouches. Great for fast table starts where your mags are on the table. You can buy a large round magnet to replace a pouch too. Some people use only those. Some - none.

I saw a recent post by a buddy on the latest DAA offerings. While I use CR Speed, DAA makes some great gear that is probably better.

Do *not* buy a leather holster for IPSC. No Serpa either. Stick with a basic kydex for now. Various brands are decent. The Ben Stoeger BOSS hanger is sweet though. It gives space for your thumb on the draw. The Bladetech DOH hanger gets in the way a bit (I have one).

In IPSC, an issue is making sure the "drop and offset" amount is within the rules. My Bladetech DOH hanger kept the gun away from my body just enough to get the attention of the CRO. So I took a heat gun to it to bend it so the gun grip was closer to my body. Since budget isn't too much of an issue for you, see about a holster/hanger setup that is adjustable for tilt, so you can get the access you need for your thumb, but still be within the rules.

*Special Note: Glock or CZ TS Users There may be a fit issue with Glock and CZ TS mags.* so i assume i should look at something else?

I just started to shoot IPSC practices at the indoor range and will be taking my black badge early in the new year. I also have a Shadow 1. I went with a CR speed 2 piece belt, 6 Cr Speed mag pouches (can't have too many right) and a Blade tech holster with a tech lock. Everything works awesome and i see no reason to upgrade anything in the near future. Get good, then get fast.
