Lets Talk Off Set Back Up Iron Sights...

Why not simply cowitness a set of irons with your red dot? Your cheek weld doesn't change, they can be flip up or not. Why use an offset
Mostly for speed in competition, the ability to rotate the rifle slightly and have sights ready to go is why I will try them. I've been watching a bunch of 3 gun vids from the states and most guys are running offset sights or an offset red dot

I believe the OP is also running a 3-15x or 4-12x medium power variable so cowitness doesn’t really work for him.

Another consideration is if the irons are a backup and are cowitnessed with a 1x optic you lose both if your optic has a broken/fogged/obscured lens, at least until you remove it.

I think the offset irons or mini red-dot might work pretty well with a medium power optic but I’ve also heard from a guy who shoots much better than I that close-in shots aren’t that bad with a 3x or 4x bottom end. Cheap enough experiment at $30 amazon irons or else an offset pic mount and a good red dot that can go live on a different rifle if you don’t like or need it.

This?

Offset irons/RDS are a competition thing....although I have no experience at the sharp end, so I do not speak for anyone that may use them for work?
I tried folding irons briefly, I found I did not like how they wanted to grab gear on my body, and got in the way of my overhand-monkey-Costa-clamp grip on my fore-end.

I use a 1-4 Trijicon for range games; for the matches I shoot, I do not need an 8+ power scope, our local ranges don't exceed 300 metres, and most of the shots are at less than 100 metres. In the US the rifle stages reach waaaaay out there, so offset sights would be more useful? It takes me one second to dial down my magnification....if I forget to do it while on the move.

I know the stage before I shoot it, so can adjust my scope accordingly during my run, and if one of the paper people, or the weather, or Murphy's pulsing prong of perversity takes out my optic, I have practised using the angle formed by the scope base and receiver as a crude sight.....which is to say I'll tank the stage (oh noes!Te horrers) and grab my BUO (back up optic:)) out of my range bag. All of my gaming optics have QDs of some description.

Perhaps if one of our stage designers (heh-heh-hehhhhh) designed stages that forced people to switch quickly between 200 and 20 meters, I would consider them again?

I tried cheapy airsoft ones off the EE (Troy knockoffs), they worked well enough; I used blue loctite on all the fasteners and adjustment screws. They were a ring 'n' post sight, with the "H&K" ears on the front post. I thought the ring around the front post would make them/me faster, but when I used them this way (circle in circle) accuracy....suffered....and centering the front sight post took too much time. If I was going to do it again, I'd look for a notch rear and hiviz front post with M14 ears....not sure if they exist? I think that would be faster, for me. Or just slap on an RDS offset, and call it a day. Slim and quick.

Hey OP, are these for matches? You may want to ask if these will kick you into another division, as a second sighting system?
