A long time ago a Canadian member on another forum posted a video of his new lower conversion kit of a SKS rifle called the SK 17 . Its uses a AR15 type lower design trigger group .

Does anyone know where this project is at the moment or did a company brought his design out ?

Sorry it this answer has been ask before I search the forums and could not find anything on it .

Here the Youtube video from 2017

I know there was this fella modifying SKS's and calling them the "SK 15" or "SKS 15".... He's on utube and goes by the username " wmcloed" or something.

It was a lot of work! Ironically, the end goal was to produce a drop-in SKS stock that would add all the capability of a modern sporting rifle to the SKS, that anyone could install with minimal modifications to the rifle. Potentially even a full return to stock configuration. Which, I think you can see from the video, I did succeed in doing.

The design has been optioned by a manufacturer, who is progressing through their own development process, so I can't say too much about it, other than that it is NOT Pearce Armoury, and they are taking it in a bit of a different direction than my original vision.
Anyway, I've been busy going back to my original SK-15 design, which modified the factory trigger group to a similar result, and I succeeded in adding in the bolt hold open functionality from the SK-17. A hybrid I call the SK-15/17.

Here's another build I did, with the steel ProMag magazines.

Always been an admirer of your ingenuity. Hopefully whoever has optioned your design does not come up with an abortion like the SKS Scorpio.:puke:

Brilliant!

Regardless how it will eventually turn out, it's always nice to see someone so enthusiastic and persistent about making something better! Keep it up WmMcleod!

Any updates WmMcLeod?

I saw your latest video on upload on YouTube from about two months ago; interested in knowing where you are with the manufacturer (if you can say...)

That SKS 15/17 is pretty much exactly what the SKS should be. If you want some more SKSs to practice modding, I'll send you a couple and even test them for you when I get them back :D Everything about that rifle is awesome.

Thanks for the support. I haven't posted on gunnutz much lately because the fuddery seems to be getting unusually strong.
Anyway, here's a few of my latest builds.

No updates on the SK-17. The rifles featured in the most recent YouTube videos are a completely different system, however.

Hey Wm, good to hear from you on CGN! I'm curious, how do the systems differ?

I'd love to see your idea put into production, it seems like such a natural progression for the platform in my mind. Until I caught wind of your project I had intended to use the SKS as a stepping stone to hold me over until I could afford a CZ/VZ but if I could drop-in one of your trigger groups for detachable mags I'd be totally content with the SKS. Is commercial production still something you're pursuing? I haven't seen or heard of any on-going projects other than your's that stands to offer what this product does.

Much prefer these types of functional improvements over the typical stock replacements like Tapco or chassis that just make the rifle heavier.

The systems differ in that while the SK-17 was a stock-replacement chassis that incorporated a trigger group, the SK-15/17 is a system of mods to the trigger group that allows for the same functionality. It also includes a charging handle on the gas tube for left handed bolt operation, and a system that allows for duckbill-less magazines.

Commercial production of these trigger groups I something I would very much like to do. Whether I am able to or not will depend on a number of external factors. I have 3 small children, and my wife is not well, so my free time at home outside of my full-time job is limited.
Ideally the goal would be to produce a trigger group that could be dropped into any SKS, replacing the factory trigger, that would incorporate all of these functions. 2019 is tomorrow, we'll see what the new year brings.

I love this idea, take it out and looks like a 1911 LOL
